So they began testing the waters for the inevitable Frozen remake. I thought they'd wait at least a few more years before opening the 2010s vault.

Problem is: after they remade all their (few) 2010s animated hits (Moana is on its way, now there's Tangled, Frozen, maybe Wreck-it Ralph), what will be left for them?

The only live action remake that I had been looking for would have been Hercules because I didn't like the animated movie.

Any clue why þhey didn't do that one?

Minecraft (the game) came out 14 years ago.

Exactly my point. It's new new to be nostalgic.

Not exactly how nostalgia works. If it's in the past, you miss thos times/look back on those times fondly... it's nostalgia.

Entertainment that goes after nostalgia dollars is stuff that's around 20 years old because kids who were into it are now in their 30s with disposable income. And it tends to be things that aren't currently popular anymore. Minecraft is still popular. This is not a nostalgia play

Animated remakes of the live action remakes?

New trailer for The Running Man reboot

I don't recall if I've ever seen the old film, and I haven't read the King novel. The trailer looks like generic overdone action stuff, but it's Wright, so I'm still looking forward to it.

Which '70s paranoid films have you seen?

Posted

I actually have not personally seen The Conversation, Marathon Man, 3 Days of the Condor, The Paralax View or Capricorn One.  But I have seen Captain America: Winter Soldier which is said to be inspired by that genre, and I liked that.

And I have also liked every Rian Johnson film I've seen, so him doing a paranoid thriller with a sci-fi edge sounds cool to me!

Aaron Sorkin will write and direct a sequel to The Social Network. It'll be called The Social Reckoning and will replace Jesse Eisenberg with Jeremy Strong as Zuckerberg.

Billy Magnussen (Game Night), Betty Gilpin (The Hunt), Gbenga Akinnagbe (A House of Dynamite), and Anna Lambe (True Detective: Night Country) join the cast

Don't forget this one, even though it's a '70s paranoid thriller made in the early '80s.

It's high on my to-watch list

Coming out next year! This is not so much a trailer as it is early BTS, but it contains footage! I've looked forward to no single movie over the past 4 years with change more than WILDWOOD. I've read, reread, and loved the book trilogy, and judging by the short clips here they're going to do the source material justice :)

In 1964, a French Bond spoof film came out called "That Man From Rio"

Lucas and Spielberg credit this film as one of their inspirations for Indiana Jones, apparently.

Anyways, this film is now being remade with Sydney Sweeney, directed by Justin Lin (Fast and Furious 3-6 and 9, Star Trek Beyond)

IMAX release slate for the next year:

If Spielberg wants his movie to be played in the format, he should convince Universal to change the date to Labour Day in early September, or maybe early November.

Would there be an issue if they bumped it a week earlier to June 5? That's two weeks after Mandalorian and two weeks before Toy Story.

I may not go to the cinema any more, but this interests me immensely as I was a fan of Michael Jackson in my childhood and teens:

I bet this makes more money than the new Star Wars film, which releases the same month. The stakes are a modest donation to any JW affiliated charity or foundation.

Any takers?

"... more money..."

When? How? Previews? First night? Opening weekend? Domestic? International? Gross? Net?

I am so there for it. I don't really know what it looks like if you haven't read the book. But I'm unexpectedly crying by the end of this and if you haven't read it I can't imagine that any of that comes through.

The good new is that it seems its heart is in the right place.

Reminds me I have to start reading my copy of it.

Edit: just read the first chapter and so far it's promising. Not pageturner-y yet, but I don't doubt it will be.
