I should watch that show

I should continue watching it. I enjoyed the first two seasons or so when I watched them, but then got stuck for some reason I don't remember.

Variety says Ocean's 14 will film next year with Clooney, Pitt, and Roberts all returning

Bet they feel stupid now for inventing a sister character for Clooney's character in Ocean's 8 who believes him to be dead

And I guess the Margot Robbie / Ryan Gosling Ocean's prequel film is dead

Variety is now confirming Ocean's 14 will include Don Cheadle and Matt Damon as well; begins filming in October

The trailer for GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, DON'T DIE looks wild.

I gotta admit, I was interested at first. Then it said Gore Verbinski and this is now second only to The Hail Mary Project for me.

Does this mean that you are not interested in THE HAIL MARY PROJECT?

No it means that if I miss every other movie this year I will see The Hail Mary Project. Jazz hands!

I watched this last night. It was pretty dang good. It has that "Netflix movie" vibe to it that I either read about online or was discussed in this forum somewhere. That vibe largely involves staging and camera setups that are less dramatic than you'd find in feature films that get theatrical runs. It's subtle but I can imagine that if I paid to see this in theaters, I'd be a disappointed that there wasn't the level of spectacle I'd expect to see.

All that said, the story is a good one and the twists are well done. Worth a watch.

New Silent Hill movie has a whopping 7% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Bad even for the low standards of bad video game movies.

It's one of my favorite games of all time :crymore:

I remember the 2006 film was a decent supernatural horror flick, but nothing special. It's a shame these great games struggle at the translation to cinema, since all the ingredients are there.

Everything from Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Uncharted, Tomb Raider, The Last of Us, Mortal Kombat, all piles of crap. I thought the first Sonic the Hedgehog flick was a real charmer though.

I seem to recall that the critical consensus deemed that season 1 of The Last Of Us  was the first translation that didn't suck? I know I enjoyed the substitute father/daughter dynamic between Pedro and Bella in that season, something that was sadly lost in season 2. So why did you think it sucked? Was this dynamic poorly handled? Or did you want more zombie/infected action?

Many things annoyed me about TLOU on HBO, most notably how story beats were often retold with so much telegraphing for the half-awake TV audience. Whereas in the game, the same story beats were told with greater care and ambiguity until their appropriate revelatory moments when they mattered. The show would've been improved a great deal if the narrative progression of the games had been preserved in the show, but characters like David suffered the most in the game-to-show transition. Not to mention the poor casting. There'll be people who'll die on a hill that the first season was a "masterpiece", but for many of us hardcore gamers who recognise the game's superior storytelling, we know the show adaptation is a dud in comparison.

The Last of Us Part II was a ballsy game that made narrative decisions that divided a lot of people, but it turned out great for all its risks. The show version chickened out of all of that. It's a shame because the hard work had already been done, but the showrunners had other ideas.

Isn't this simply 'The book is better than the movie' again? Those who have first read the book will always look down on the movie (and vice versa).

Also, as a gamer, you are an active participant in the game's story. In a movie, or TV series, you only get to watch.

Still no excuse for making such an inferior facsimile of an existing story that was already good. Again, the hard work had already been done, but Hollywood egomaniacs like having their own "take", and in this case, it all fell apart.

Strange, I kept hearing how close the TV series is to the game. If it truly was that bad, wouldn't that reflect in its general critical reception?

I don't understand why you think it's as bad as every other movie based on a game. I feel the world does not agree with you on this one.

Again, I'm talking S1. S2 is another story. Heck, even The Walking Dead was much better than that.

It's likely you're mostly hearing from TV viewers with barely a cursory familiarity with the source material. Nevertheless why should I conform to their hive mind praise?

You think today's generation of movie critics never played a game? We're not living in the '70s anymore where critics like Pauline Kael were emotionally disconnected from younger audiences.

Hey if they enjoy an inferior version and have convinced themselves that it's on par with the superior version, that's their own issue. But time will be brutal to this show.

Lord of the Rings, right?

Me neither, so they can't be that good.

It's coloring a little bit too much between the lines. I don't know, perhaps it's too faithful to style of the old books.  And I've noticed that the follow-up trilogy was even more tame. I only watched the first 5 minutes but that was enough.

It looks like a CGI nightmare but it also looks like a movie that would have come out in like 2010, the only thing that stands out as more current being the Gender Pronoun gag. There’s also this vague sort of A.I. quality about the whole thing.

Anything "not real" is now chalked up to A.I. I wonder if you showed people Legolas from The Two Towers if they would now think it's A.I.?

Scorpion King, surely.

A.I. has us questioning the authenticity of everything.

The whole vibe of this trailer is like someone asked an advanced A.I. to generate a MOTU movie trailer.

Its bad CGI that no one is getting paid for.

Heavily unionized Hollywood hates that.

They did it for free??

If they could prove that they worked REALLY HARD on this with actors and sets would that make it better?

It feels a bit like the Jeremy Irons Dungeons & Dragons.

I have no interest whatsoever in the new Masters of the Universe movie*, I just hope it will be the reason the original film will be released in 4k!

*Do we know who's writing the score though?
