Does Anyone Else Feel Like Me?

I've absolutely loved film music for as long as I can remember. I was probably the only 5 year old in my city who watched Star Trek: The Motion Picture and liked the Klingon theme. I didn't get my first score CD until I was 9... Good old Star Trek: First Contact. Without that one, it might have been even later before I actually realized that they put this music on disc.

Now, twelve years later, I still love movie music, but I don't hunger for the chase of finding it as much. It wasn't until recently that I realized why: I have nearly all of my "holy grails" on legit, pressed discs. Since I've been able to get Alien, Conan the Barbarian (Varese), The 'Burbs and the Indy trilogy on LP (to say nothing of the impending box set) I find that not many announcements of "holy grails" excite me as much as before simply because of the fact that I've got pretty much all of the scores I want. I'm still discovering things I don't have which I intend to buy (Eagle Eye and Memoirs of an Invisible Man come to mind) but I'm pretty content right now. Just give me expanded Star Trek scores and I'll be set!

I know how many score fans soon become "collectors" rather than "aficionados" and I know the question has been asked on this very forum, "When is enough enough?" I'm virtually there right now. All I've got to do is finish nabbing the Pink Floyd and Beatles stuff that I still want...

Hah, the story of my soundtrack-loving life too, so that makes two of us!

There's still too many grails and unreleased stuff I want. I don't hunger to find as much because alot of scores are getting re-released with deluxe editions. The only thing now is to be patient and hope it's released while I still have enough time to enjoy it.

Yeah I could stop now and have enough to last me the rest of my life but I'm greedy.

I used to be a film score nut. Well, more of a John Williams nut. Then when I had to get serious about my musical studies, I discovered classical music and fell in love with it all... then Broadway musicals... and more and more rock and pop. My tastes have expanded a lot, so I'm not as obsessive about scores as I used to be... except for Indiana Jones... heh.

I'm past my prime as a film score collector. The best days are when you discover that you love it and know a decent amount about it. The shopping sprees are fun as hell. I miss it. Going online and find dozens on JW scores that I don't own and deciding which ones to get, it was great.

This is coming from the guy who hasn't even gotten into Golden Age music.

I listened to "Sea Hawk" and "Deception" yesterday....

That's how you keep it fresh, my friend. You gotta try new things, new styles, new people.... wait a minute, sounds like I'm trying to help someone with a relationship.

Really though, I was going "flat" a few years ago, and then started diving into the golden age of Hollywood, and found a whole new horizon.

I agree.

It is nice that a lot of scores are getting complete legit releases these days...and yes we have been very spoiled in the last few years I for one hope it keeps going! ;)
