Wojo 2,442
This is promising. I didn't want the Indy box set to be the last hurrah of the calendar year. Between that and El Cid, 2008 will have been spectacular, and Ford A. Thaxton is only stoking the fire more and more. Yippee!!!
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,251
So probably a pre-1980's score that has had a release of some sort, but that was a re-recording. And it's one of the best scores ever. This can only end in dissapointment.
Wojo 2,442
Well the studios are certainly on an Elmer Bernstein kick. Could it be The Ten Commandments?

Ollie 859
You guys are messing it up.5 releases in the pipeline.3 scores by the same composer, one is a 2 disc set and is considered to be one of the greatest scores written. The other 2 are single discs and one of them has already been released as a re-recording. There is nothing left from Williams that would fill 2 discs and be considered one of the greatest film scores written. My guess is something from Goldsmith, North or Rozsa. I would say perhaps Poledouris but I'm not sure about the two single scores. The other 2 scores are 2 disc sets as well but no hints on those. #SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,251
I'm struggling to think of a Goldsmith title that can be considered one of the best scores ever, and that has not yet been released apart from a re-rec. Ollie 859
Steef you need to re-read my post above yours. As far as Goldsmith goes, there's only one score in his works that could fit two discs and be called one of the greatest:ST:TMP
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,251
True, and nothing would make me happier. But it is not the most likely option.Psycho would be very good, though I doubt it will require 2 CD's

The other 2 are single discs and one of them has already been released as a re-recording.I think he meant that the 2 single-disc releases are by the same composer as each other, NOT the same composer that did any of the 2CD sets coming out.The one that he says is "considered on of the greatest film scores written by most film music historians" is probably one of those golden age scores, Ben Hur or Ten Commandments or El Cid or Adventures of Robin Hood or Captain Blood or The Sea Hawk or something. How sweet would it be if the 2 single discs were Wrath of Kahn and Search For Spock? Ollie 859
No Jason, one of the scores has never been released before and the other is a re-recording. Later in the thread Ford dropped a hint that the re-recording could be from the 70's.No, the two single releases are by the same composer, the 2CD is by somebody else.Hmmm....yeah I guess you're right. One could take it either way.

Ollie 859
I'm excited about their recording of Exodus.Given the scores/composers Prometheus has released CDs for it might be easy to narrow it down the 2 disc greatest score. You can cross Williams off the list for the greatest score because all of his scores that qualify have been released. That's why I think it's going to come from North, Rozsa, Poledouris or possibly Goldsmith.

Charlie Brigden 5
Considering the heritage of those movies, that's quite an amazing feat, although I guess the ages of at least KANE and WEBSTER (and certainly even the existence of a decent print of the latter for so long) comes into play. I'm not saying this is likely, but any of these scores being released would be exciting. I would love to have the original tracks to all of these, even if they are damaged or incomplete. Wojo 2,442
I won't speculate beyond my post on the first page, because I'm not nearly educated enough on the obscure scores that seemingly come out of nowhere each time there's a new limited release from these labels. I hope it's one that I truly want to buy, because while Intrada's two new ones I'm sure are nice, I'm not that interested.
