Sandor 459
Basically the central new theme from TLC. The track The Penitent Man Will Pass starts with it. My question: what's the name of that particular theme? It's been refered to as "Henry's Theme", "The Grail Theme", and even other names. Never been able to get a definitive answer on this one, which is annoying since it's one of my favorite John Williams' themes.Thanks.
Incanus 5,519
The theme you are refering to is the Grail Theme. It represents the MacGuffin itself but also its spiritual qualities. I think it is one of Williams' best themes. So simple yet so full of meaning and such a fitting leitmotif for the Grail. Shows Maestro's great understanding of both musical history and film music history but also of something universally human and spiritual.

I guess there is often a lot of confusion between The Grail Theme and The Grail Knight Theme (as heard in The Keeper Of The Grail and the End Credits for example). Red 73
No offense, but I thought this was common knowledge. Regardless, yes it is a fantastic theme.
John Crichton 4
There's been a lot of discussion about this in the Indy box set thread. Somewhere. In one of them...
indy4 152
Many people have different theories about these themes.
John Crichton 4
There's really no question about the grail theme, it's just the other ones.
Goldsmithfan 3
True story. Ever since I heard the so-called Grail Knight theme in Ah, Rats when Indy and Elsa talk about Henry, I've been wondering... Is this another theme for the father/son relationship? It also seems odd that Williams would use the Grail Knight theme during the end credits when Indy and Henry are still seen together, riding into the sunset. That's probably just making a mountain out of a molehill though.
Ollie 859
If you're talking about the cue that follows the Raiders march as they are riding into the sunset then that's just part of the end credits suite. The Grail theme appears to cover several "themes" within the film. King Mark 2,924
I think in LC it's the Grail Theme plain and simple .It seems to have several sections ,like Hedwig's theme which has a A and B theme .so the Grail Theme is part of the same theme as the Grail Knight themea
Charlie Brigden 5
Is this the theme that seems to represent Henry/Fatherhood in KOTCS?
Incanus 5,519
I guess this deliberate mixing up of themes continues for centuries to come. Perhaps the man of 24th century will finally be able to separate these melodies from each other.
