Thanks to the miracle of ipod playlists, I ripped in the 5 cds from the boxset straight as they are and then made playlists of the scores in film order. then i took the cues that weren't completely right and made edits of just those cues in Sony Vegas and Sound Forge, added those to my ipod and swapped those out in the playlists. in the case of temple of doom, i ended up doing a lot more because i wanted to have the option of listening to the cues separately or all cut together, which meant quite a few huuuuge pieces (for example, from "Deal for Diamonds" all the way to "The Village" is all one track). For Last Crusade I even made a playlist with the bootleg tracks in the proper place and another without them since they're such poor audio fidelity. Having different playlists enables quite a bit of flexibility without using a lot of storage space on the ipod.My KOTCS is the same way - the album ripped straight in and then a playlist in film order with replacement edits only for the cues that required them.

Nice idea. I sequenced everything and arranged my additional material using my download 'preview' version last week, so I just had to rip my set and I was all set.

And I renamed a load from Crusade and KotCS, I hate Williams' titles sometimes.

I haven't done much editing. Just Out of Fuel/Slalom. They just felt wrong to be apart.

I made my sister a copy of Temple of Doom on 2 CDs, here is how they look. It's also pretty much how I listen to them. And, of course, I changed some of the track titles.

I combined Out of Fuel with Slalom into one single track. There is no way I'll ever listen to Slalom by itself ever again, so that needed to be one track. Then, I combined Saving Willie, Slave Children and Shorty Helps to run continuously without pause, but made them seperate tracks that run together. This is essential in my view, there is a momentum that starts in "Saving Willie" that doesn't let up until the trio land in that mine car. This is the only way these tracks should be heard. But Slave Children is probably THE centerpiece of the whole score and I didn't want it buried in the middle of an 11-minute track, that's why I set it up as three tracks that run together. Just from an album point of view, Slave Childrens Crusade needed to be distinguished.

I don't feel the rest of the music benefits from running together. All the others... Secret Passage (which I am liking more and more), Bug Tunnel, Nocturnal Activities, Nightclub Brawl, Fast Streets etc. are all great cues that work as individual standalone pieces. I'm not too fond of the iso score type listening experience, I generally like pauses in between tracks.

"The Temple of Doom" should only go after Bug Tunnel, it doesn't belong anywhere else. After they get out of the spike room, they see the Temple ceremony, so too should it be that way on the album. Then Indy steals the stones, then they are all captured, then Shorty breaks free. Moving the Temple ceremony music in the middle of that doesn't feel right, plus its a perfect way to start off the second disc right at the middle point of the score. Short Rounds musical escape makes sense coming right after Children In Chains.

I didn't put any of the ripped DVD stuff among the released tracks, the difference in sound quality is noticeable to me so I kept them as bonus tracks. Also, as I mentioned before Slave Children is the major theme of the movie so I included the wonderful concert version as a bonus track. Same with the English version of Anything Goes, it's a fun "alternate".

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Disc 1

1. Shanghai 1935 (Anything Goes)

2. Deal for the Diamond

3. The Nightclub Brawl

4. Fast Streets of Shanghai

5. Out of Fuel/Slalom on Mt. Humol

6. A Plea for Help

7. Short Round's Theme

8. The Scroll/Pankot Palace

9. Nocturnal Activities

11. Bug Tunnel and Death Trap

Bonus Tracks:

12. Anything Goes [English lyrics]

13. Over The Himalayas [film version]

14. Fortune and Glory

15. Maharaja/The Feast

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Disc 2

1. The Temple of Doom

Right, let's start again. Scratch inspired me to separate the bonus tracks across discs, so instead of writing it out again I'll just post the section from my CD cover. In terms of editing, I didn't do a huge amount, aside from a bit of volume increases and the likes. But I did edit:

Chaos at Club Obi-Wan (Nightclub Brawl) with Anything Goes overdubs.

Over The Himalayas (Film Version)

Children In Chains with A True Believer from the DVD

The three Underground Chaos tracks together

Water! with The Sword Trick, the rope percussion, The Broken Bridge/British Relief

Return to the Village with the RPO end credits and the album end credits

Those are just some mammoth tracks, Colin. Just because two cues or tracks can be edited together doesn't mean they must be edited together. To each his own though, that's the beauty of the digital age.

Ah, I see. I thought maybe I had made a chronological mistake or something.

The reason I like long tracks is because I make a complete chrono album in my playlist, and then that is the playlist I listen to when I want to listen to a score all the way through (most of the time). If I ever want to hear just one cue separated, I have the original album to go to. That is my thought process.

It is pretty cool, though, that we can all make edits exactly how we want them.

Yeah, if you're going to listen to the full score anyway you might as well combine tracks as the composer intended. I mean, tell me that "Indy Negotiates" and "Nightclub Brawl" aren't really just a single piece of music recorded in parts.

Do you see Negotiates/Brawl/Fast Streets/Out of Fuel/Slalom/Villagers as a single piece of music in Williams' mind that he happened to recorded in parts? For the most part, I see them as individual setpieces that Williams knew were going to bump shoulders with each other. I'm not being argumentative here, just interested in how we see the music differently and doing our own "versions" of the score. Whatever works for you.

Yes.

Do you see ... Out of Fuel/Slalom/Villagers as a single piece of music in Williams' mind that he happened to recorded in parts?

Yes. (I'm talking about the unreleased "The Village." "Indy and the Villagers" is a later cue.)

The transitions here are very clear cut; each piece leads naturally into the next. But I'll give you "Map / Out of Fuel" - it just kind of starts while "Fast Streets of Shanghai" is fading out, so there's nothing particularly musical about combining them. By the way,

"The Temple of Doom" should only go after Bug Tunnel, it doesn't belong anywhere else. After they get out of the spike room, they see the Temple ceremony, so too should it be that way on the album. Ah, I see. Is it any good?

No, I certainly don't recommend that album. That version of Anything Goes is no replacement for the original film version, to be sure, but I thought it made a fun bonus track. I think its one of the better tracks from that album, though that isn't saying much. I don't think throwing every scrap of music we have from any source is the best way to go.

Here's my Raiders (just consists of combination of cues from DCC and Concord):

10. The Basket Game (DCC)

23. The Miracle of the Ark (DCC)

Why these 2 from DCC?

Yes, and what I've been trying to find out from you is, why did you choose the DCC over the Concord for those 2 tracks.

The Concord has better quality than the DCC, doesn't it? I just listened to the DCC (I assume. It was from a boot) "Desert Chase", and while the difference was not huge, there certainly was one, and the DCC was also a little quieter. I am considering making an edit of the two.

Right.

I could understand somebody using all the tracks from the Concord except "Desert Chase" from the DCC for better quality

And I could see somebody using everything from DCC except the newly released cues from Concord for the correct speed

I don't understand why you'd mix and match

Also: "Miracle Of The Ark" on the DCC has the ending of "Ark Trek" still playing in the beginning of it, where as on the Concord set they are separated properly

I still have to listen to the boxset, so I'll have to wait before making a statement about Raiders sound quality.

However, I always found the DCC Raiders a spectacular sounding CD. It's crisp, detailed and dynamic. Wasn't it considered an audiophile release from the beginning? It was even pressed on gold-enhanced platters as well, if I remember right.

When something is amazingly recorded as Raiders, we must tip our hats to the original engineer. So, kudos to the great Mr Eric Tomlinson!

So nearly got RAIDERS on one disk... I did most things as normal, replacing Desert Chase/The Warehouse/End Credits with their DCC counterparts, and adding the leak material and the LP extra bit.

Now to LAST CRUSADE, which might be a weekend job...

In a month, when I get back home from the cruiseship, I'll be very interested in giving some of your edits a listen.

What exactly is in this "editing package" that, I think, Jason LeBlanc is sending out?

Is there any chance of anyone giving me a good definitive version in about a month?

I don't object to some DVD rips being used, as long as there's not too much SFX.

It'd also be great to have some of the alternate music from the LEGO Indiana Jones video game included.

And the "Rope Bridge" percussion is an absolute must, of course, as well as a proper film edit of the "End Credits".

Has anyone edited an as-complete-as-possible version of the "Rope Bridge" and the alternate "They Stole the Children" yet?

Did I understand correctly that Miss Padmé made a "Nightclub Brawl" version with the "Anything Goes" overlay?

And did anyone made a "Desert Chase" DCC/Concord combo? Does that work to some extent?

And if not, doesn't "Desert Chase" feel out of place amongst the Concord tracks when giving the score a full listen?

Also are there any more specifics on crumbs' expanded KotCS?

How's the sound quality on the tracks? Where's the SFX? Which parts are clean?

Could anyone answering please send me a PM as well?

With my slow Internet, it's hard to find any replies through all the dozens of pages here.
