Original Score

David Arnold - Quantum of Solace

Thomas Newman - WALL-E

John Powell - Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who!

A.R. Rahman - Slumdog Millionaire

David Hirschfelder - Australia

Danny Elfman - Milk

Who the hell is A.R. Rahman?

Surprised to see Powell's Horton there. Might have to give that a listen - animated scores don't generally work for me.

Not surprised to see a lack of Indy though. I cancelled my pre-order of the CD when it leaked; that's how disappointed I was with it initially. Even though I've come to like it more, there are still two tracks I find the ideal cure for insomnia and didn't even rip for my new Indy collection.

Milk will win best score ,no matter if the music is any good or not

Williams should have scored it, he would win an automatic Oscar,Golden Globe and Grammy awards.

Well considering it's only in 35 theaters in the U.S. and making $1 mill from each one.

Milk has grossed less than two million nationwide.

My bad, I meant 1 million from all 35, which is a lot.

Milk won't win. A nomination could be likely though.

$2 million nationwide... doesn't that make it an absolute bomb?

It doesn't go nationwide until today. It was only released in a few dozen theaters last week and managed to haul in something like $50,000 per screen, which is kind of mind blowing.

I think that the best score winner will depend on what is nominated/going to win in other categories. If Milk or Benjamin Button or Revolutionary Road looks to get shut out in all of the major categories, they'll probably toss the score an Oscar, just like they did with Babel, Finding Neverland, Atonement, etc. Such is the nonsense of the Oscars!

Has anybody heard Newman's Revolutionary Road yet?

Elfman is probably the only composer who hopes he doesn't win an Oscar. In interviews he's mentioned that he's terrified of getting up in front of an audience to speak. He comes across as someone who doesn't seem interested in the whole Oscar scene.

Spielberg has already received a "honorary" Oscar, before he won his first he received the Thalberg award.

He mentioned he feels more comfortable singing in front of crowds. But if he has to stop and talk, well it's a nerve racking experience.

You see that a lot with people, they can perform their job in front of large crowds but put a mike in their face and expect them to talk and they suddenly become helpless.

If you ask me, he may start singing as soon as he finds himself on the stage, receiving the Oscar (not necesarilly for Milk - - - I wish he gets it for Little Things song).

That track is a better rock song than most rock bands can come up with these days.

I cannot say that I agree or not, because I'm rather lame in this branch, but I really like this song (and Elfman's songs in general too).

Ahh yes, the sympathy vote. Worst curse of the oscars for music. I think it's particularly damaging for the smaller categories, because to a producer or A-list actor, winning an oscar is probably cool, but unlikely to change their lives. But for a writer, costume designer, make-up person etc who's breaking into the business, it will mean a major boost for their career, and these academy idiots are just tossing the statues around like they're lunch vouchers...

I'm waiting for Revolutionary Road to appear on that Vantage Guild place.
