Good classical study scores

What are some good classical study scores that are similar in theme and scope to orchestral film scores? Here's some of the ones I already have:

The Planets (Holst)

Night on Bald Mountain (Mussorgsky)

New World Symphony (Dvorak)

Rite of Spring (Stravinsky)

Prelude of a Faun (Debussy)

Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis (Vaughan Williams)

Carmina Burana (Orff)

Any other ideas or suggestions?

Scheherezade - Rimsky Korsakov

Alexander Nevsky and Ivan the Terrible - Prokofiev (these actually are film scores)

Cantanta for the October Revolution - Prokofiev

Symphony 5 - Prokofiev

Several overtures by Richard Wagner

Tone poems by Richard Strauss

Concerto for Piano and Orchestra nº 3 - Rachmaninov

Peer Gynt - Grieg (incidental music for a play)

Cello Concerto - Elgar

Some good suggestions. I'm familiar with the Prokofiev fim scores, as well as the Rachmaninoff and of course "Morning" from Peer Gynt (But is the rest of it as good?).

Funny. You just listed all the classical works Horner has stolen from. :o

 Thanks for adding to the discussion.

I don't even think Morning is a highlight from Peer Gynt. Very well known, of course, as is In The Hall of the Mountain King, but the whole thing is marvelous. The most common recordings, by far, only cover the two orchestral suites Grieg arranged from the incidental music. It's a very good way to get into the music. But if you can, try to get the full incidental music in addition to the suites, it's a revelation. There's a very good (and very cheap) recording by Salonen of the incidental music which is marvelous. You get to hear In the Hall of the Mountain King with Norwegian choir

Another suggestion: Sibelius's tone poems. They're good atmospheric pieces. Dover has a book with a collection of sevral scores of his tone poems for full orchestra.

I have the Järvi, and like it a lot.
