Hahaha, I know!

I really want to go to this and a friend of mine going to NYU for grad school next year is willing to put me up for the night, but no one fom home actually wants to go to the concert. I don't want to go alone, but I'll go if someone wants to get me in on a group or something!

I did not attend. I know they projected the movie simultaneously, but I don't know if it was without sound

It's with sound - a special mix produced specifically for these 'Live to Projection' concerts.

Jim, what the heck is your avatar from?

Sorry to barge in on Jim's answer on his avatar but that's composer Philip Glass Jason!

And on the topic I just have to say that I will be waiting for these performances to arrive to the Northern Europe at some point. LotR symphony is performed in Finland this May so there is hope. And hearing a live performance of complete score of these films is my dream come true.

I didn't know that was you on FSM! LOL. Yeah, we're not getting group tickets or anything but my friends and I are talking about going we're not sure when or where we're going to sit, but as things get more final, I'll let you know so that we can sit next to, or close.

I saw Shore perform his LoTR scores in Newark, NJ a few years ago and it was a mind blowing experience. I am looking forward to going to this. I don't even care if there is an intermission or not. I sat through the movie several times without having to get up, so for me it isn't a necessity.

Where in NJ are you? I'm up North, just about 40 mins from NY. Well, NYC. I'm 10 mins from NY State.

I was hoping to go to the concert years ago - it was at NJPAC if I remember correctly.

I live about 10 minutes from Seaside/Toms River down at the shore. During the school year I'm in Trenton.

The most interesting one is "The Hobbit films preview/discussion" - ooooh!

So who else from this board will I see at the Saturday show?

I desperately want to go to this concert. Unfortunately, I don't know whether or not I will be able to afford it. Does anyone know if it is looking like tickets will sell out anytime soon?

I have no idea, but the best person to ask would be Doug Adams over at his blog: http://themusicofthelordoftheringsfilms.blogspot.com/

BTW, I have 2 tickets to this concert, but the friend I thought I was going to go with cannot make it. I wouldn't mind selling my extra ticket to someone from the board.... as long as you don't mind sitting next to me at the show

Jason, that would be very cool, but I really don't know if I'll be able to make it, so if you get the chance to sell those tickets to someone else, take it. It won't be until later before I even find out if it is in the realm of possibilities for me to attend. But if I do, I'd love to get to meet you.

Billy Boyd's band Beecake will be playing in NYC Saturday night after the show:

Doug also promises there is some special LOTR related event happening Sunday from 10am-2pm:

There's also a Tolkien manuscript exhibit running in Oct and Nov in NYC:

I'd really like to know a couple specifics such as the price of the book, times and locations of signings and lectures and stuff. We're at leass than a month before the show and really we still know so little, I know that I'd like to be able to start planning.

I'll be at the Friday show, and will probably ride the train up again on Sunday for whatever is going on then (if I can get it, seems it has limited seating). Will anyone else be around on for the Friday show?

Video from CBS about the event: http://themusicofthelordoftheringsfilms.blogspot.com/2009/10/children-of-rings.html

Video from MTV about the event: http://themusicofthelordoftheringsfilms.blogspot.com/2009/10/mtv.html

BTW, I have had two friends bail on me now for going with me to the concert... so once again I have an extra ticket. If anybody here would like to go, let me know! I'll sell for face value!

One of my pals worked on the score with Howard so I got a comp to see the Friday nite show. It was just fantastic. I truly enjoyed it, it was different from what I expected but very powerful and the crowd was highly enthused. It was just an excellent effort, you all would have been proud of everyone cheering for film music. Cheering when themes are introduced etc... It was great.

As much as I love the scores, I don't think I could sit through it either. I saw Howard Shore conduct the LOTR Symphony a few years ago. I regret not taking that day off from work instead of merely leaving early, because after a two hour ride to get there (without napping), I was really nodding off throughout ROTK.

So, who is going to the performance of The Two Towers live to picture in NYC next week?

http://www.theradioc...otrconcert.com/

For those who haven't heard, there will be a signing (and I think a Q&A) with Howard Shore and Doug Adams at Barnes and Noble on Thursday October 7th. I'll be at that, and I know John Takis and Jim Ware will as well.

http://www.musicoflo...e-of-signs.html

I think John and Jim are going to the Friday concert, but my GF and I will be at the Saturday concert.

Also, the New York Comic Con happens to be this weekend as well!

http://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/

I know that on Saturday morning, there will be a Film Score Panel at 11:45:

Jennie and I will be going to that as well!

Anybody here going to any of the above events?

I'll be at the B&N signing (got to get my copy of the book!) as well as both concerts. I haven't been able to listen to the CRs and read the notes to get in the mood as much as I did last year, but I'm sure it'll still be another excellent weekend of music.

Apparently Radio City is doing some tech work in October, and they scheduled that West coast tour. Hopefully they don't wait for October 2012...something like April or May would be okay.
