Every few days I will post a thread on a random score from my collection that we can discuss and rate. I made a playlist on my computer with one track of each score I've got, so by using the random play option, I'll be able to post a truly random score each time. Hopefully this will allow us to discuss some scores that would otherwise never be discussed. Also we can record the rating so that we can create a full list of the ratings given to scores by JWFan.com.

Today's score is Night at the Museum by Alan Silvestri. Are you familiar with it? What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? How do do you think it works in the film? What are your favourite tracks?

So far JWFan has rated:

See Soundtrack Ratings by JWFan.com.

This web page contains the ratings from all my previous polls as well as those of Blumenkohl's.

Final ratings are converted to a 1-10 rating for both rating systems so that they can be compared.

I agree with that. The main title is absolute 5-star material as far as I'm concerned.

The rest of the music is certainly creative and very good in parts, but not much lives up to the first track.

The end result is disappointing, but still pretty good.

I'll go with a 3,5 as well.

BTW: It keeps striking me how much creativity Alan Silvestri puts into his recent music output.

Just listen to "The Wild". That contains some really beautiful, emotional and creative parts.

Somebody really should give Alan Silvestri a proper score to write again!

It is a score for those disappointed with Beowulf and Van Helsing. Some really nice material in there. Not very memorable, but reminds old Silvestri.

3,5 stars.

The movie is OK, but far from being impressive.

The premise is very good (museum comes alive), but the execution isn't as good as the premise.

There's some stupid jokes, some OK jokes and some parts are really very good.

Personally I like the movie a fair bit, but have to admit it isn't stellar.

4 stars.

It's not his best work, but the main titles are great, and the rest is good enough to keep me pretty well interested throughout.

It's definately one of his better recent works.

Well, Zemeckis's A Christmas Carol is one I'm looking forward to (especially with how good The Polar Express was), and Sommers's G.I. Joe and Tarzan should give Silvestri some opportunity for fun action and adventure scores.

I have a hard time taking it seriously ever since the FSM guys put words to the main theme. It's also their fault that I hear the G.I. Joe theme whenever I try to listen to Beowulf.

I give it a 3.

Nice main titles but the rest isn't anything that really stands out.

Silvestri is doing the G.I. Joe film, so I guess that'll sound like Beowulf.

Tarzan? Do you have any more information about that?

Last I heard Stephen Sommers was planning to make at least one Tarzan movie. The rumor was that Tarzan would actually be running around in khakis, but I don't know if that's been confirmed or not, or if it is, then if any other big changes will be made. What I do know is that if there's anything left of the Stephen Sommers that made the 1994 The Jungle Book, it should be a pretty fun movie, and regardless, I'm sure we'll get a decent at worst, awesome at best Silvestri score.
