Every few days I will post a thread on a random score from my collection that we can discuss and rate. I made a playlist on my computer with one track of each score I've got, so by using the random play option, I'll be able to post a truly random score each time. Hopefully this will allow us to discuss some scores that would otherwise never be discussed. Also we can record the rating so that we can create a full list of the ratings given to scores by JWFan.com.

Today's score is Under Siege 2: Dark Territory by Basil Poledouris. Are you familiar with it? What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? How do do you think it works in the film? What are your favourite tracks?

So far JWFan has rated:

See Soundtrack Ratings by JWFan.com.

This web page contains the ratings from all my previous polls as well as those of Blumenkohl's.

Final ratings are converted to a 1-10 rating for both rating systems so that they can be compared.

I give it a 4, It's actually a pretty good score by Poledouris but the Varese album is too short.

It's got a nice rousing theme that owes some to Copeland's "Fanfare For The Common Man" and it was said that Poledouris gave a musical nod to Goldsmith with the theme for the GRAZER satellite as a response to Jerry's Conan styled opening to Total Recall.

The film is actually entertaining and is one of the few Segal films worth watching.

I gave it a 4,5. Pretty darn good, especially the main theme and the final action tracks.

The film was also pretty enjoyable to me, if all you want is a good action film without requiring a lot of philosophical thought.

I gave it a 4.

Its pretty darn good and everything you should expect from an action score. Poledorious was great with this kind of stuff, and I absolutely love it. Is the main theme overused? Yes, but that just adds to the cheesiness of the Segal film world.

BTW, Dark Territory is probably my favorite Segal movie. I do love me some Katherine Heigel.

And two underserved 1-star votes again. I think I should just substract two 1-star votes from all final results to get a proper result.

Especially when it's a score that most people are unfamiliar with and thus gets few votes, some random votes can really mess things up.

The Copland bit is very obvious (though not distracting), and the score has some parts that sound like prototypes of the Starship Troopers action writing. I don't really specifically remember anything from it though. 3 stars.

Perhaps someone is doing it on purpose?
Methinks some unwashed heathens are defaulting to 1 star instead of "I'm not familiar with this score".

I'm thinking either of those two is indeed the case. I keep seeing 1-star votes fot scores that don't deserved it, whichever way you put it.
