Ehh, I quit going there years ago, the stores here had poor customer service and had reduced their soundtrack section to almost a non existant entity. Same with DVDs.

I never cared for Circuit City they were also another place that their prices were a bit higher than some where else and I agree that the soundtrack section was greatly reduced. All though I'm not sure about their DVD section I think it's still fairly large.

I bought more DVD's there than anyplace else because they had great sales but their customer service was poor and I'd never by a big ticket item there.

:spiny:

My friend just got a job there.

but my mother lives in Hackensack.

lex luthor looks at watch and shakes head.

Circuit City and Best Buy are places that if you do go there, you have to know exactly what it is you are looking for and where to find it because the employees are of no help whatsoever. As for soundtrack buying, Barnes & Noble is the only brick and mortar place I have bought a soundtrack from in the last ten years.

Apparently plenty of people do buy CDs and DVDs at Barnes & Noble.

If you want it bad enough and don't feel like driving out of the way to find it cheaper then you will buy it there.

If I'm at B&N and see a CD for $18 and my other option is to drive across town to get it for $5 cheaper then I'll spend the extra money.

Well that's the thing, there is no store that is cheaper than Amazon. All of my shopping is online. Only money I spend when I go out is for food or movies.

You can do those online, too.

There is some pleasure derived from going out and actually buying a physical object every now and then.

Impossible.

I don't find pleasure in spending more money on something, also keeping in mind that gas prices are getting a little higher.

That-a-boy, Koray. Stick it to those old-timers and their antediluvian ways.

from what you've told us before you don't spend money going to the movies you mooch your way in. :spiny:

I do some minimal online shopping, but I like the tactile experience of shopping. I like picking up a book and looking at it, deciding if I might buy it. You absolutely cannot do that online.

When my brother works, yes. When he's not working, or if I go to a different theater, I have to pay ;) I hate how theaters change their damn student discounts so people can barely take advantage of it. Only on Thursdays... WTF?

So what competition is there now for Best Buy in terms of a brick and mortar store? Their prices are probably going to go up now.

The sad thing about this is I can no longer claim to have bought every James Bond movie at Circuit City. I bought the "Ultimate Edition" DVDs there and the recent Casino Royale 3-disc set. Circuit City had the best prices on those.

As those stores will be liquidated this may be a good time to pick up some electronics at lower prices.

You could see this coming for a while, Circuit City has had a hard time competing. The store here was one of the ones that was closed last year. I was a bit disappointed, I didn't buy CDs or DVDs there but I thought they were good when it came to hardware and larger items.

While I wish no hardship on big companies like that or the thousands of families they'll affect, it would be nice to find a decent television at a reduced price to replace the 25+ year old CRT in my bedroom, as the CC in my town liquidates.

Brick and mortar stores like CC and Best Buy just can't compete with the online dealers, that sell quality merchandise for much reduced cost, and without charging (most consumers) sales tax. And most types of things you could buy at CC can be found at Walmart, too.

I don't think there will be that many great deals on stuff at closing Circuit City's. They can easily sell their inventories to Best Buys and Targets, etc

I'm surprised BB has outlasted Circuit City. Circuit City offers free shipping and their in-store pickup is easy and convenient, some of the online prices were pretty good. BB selection even on their website was poor and their prices are terribly high and they don't do free shipping from their website. I guess they are just better advertisers than CC.

I hope this doesn't force Neil into a Best Buy store for any reason.

I went to Best Buy last week. I was given a gift card and I used it to get a Blu-ray disc of test patterns. I wound up spending $2.05, but that was money for the state of California.

hehehehe....that's why when I bought my Panasonic 42" plasma screen TV there at the end of December, I didn't buy the protection plan (although I never buy those as a general rule)

But, MAN did I get a deal on that TV though. Much better than what Best Buy was offering on the exact same TV.

I always liked Circuit City. In fact, all my electronics - except for the stereo system in my son's room - were purchased at Circuit City. Its a shame to see them fold.

I was given a BB gift card for my birthday in October and eventually just used it to buy a Christmas gift for someone else (a Wii game) and ended up paying a couple dollars in tax.

Yeah, it's much like if Target went out of business, then Wal-Mart would be master of the world.

I worked for a retailer that went through liquidation, and let me tell you, those poor employees are in for a VERY unpleasant experience. Near the end of their run, it will be as if God or the devil kicked up a mossy log, unleashing all of the most rude, dispicable "humans" upon those locations.

"Wha'? You ain't giving me this camcorder for free? I done bought dat tv over there fo' $20. You want me ta leave here and just fo'get it? No? Okay, then maybe you give me that fixture over there..." That's not much of an exageration. The best is when these douches pull the line, "C'mon, give it to me, I already am buyin' so much of your stuff." And the prices they paid for that stuff was outrageous. :( Douchebags.

AND... then as they have them gut out the store and dump trash into dumpster bins outside, they'll encounter all of these annoying housewives who call themselves "dumpster divers." I recall telling them one day as I threw a bunch of toilet paper and receipt tape into the bin, "If you any of you ladies break your ass in there, I'm walking away and it ain't my problem."

Sadly, it didn't happen.

Though calling their soundtrack selection pathetic would be an understatement, I did like Circuit City for DVDs and other electronics. Compared to the Best Buy across the street, the local Circuit City is much bigger and more spread out, and much quieter (by which I mean no blaring speakers all the time). Much more pleasant store shopping experience.

R.I.P., Circuit City.
