JWFan Thematic Tournament- Part II: Nominations

Still, the tournament is supposed to determine JWFans' favorite JW theme(s). And the results are sorta skewed if you vote for something that isn't your favorite theme.

But I'm not doing that, actually it's the opposite. There are so many themes that I'm a fan of that it's difficult to narrow them all down to ten (even without franchises).

I did that on my list for the first tournament too. I wanted to have a varied list so I forced myself to just a couple Star Wars, a couple Indy, etc. Basically no more than 2 themes per franchise. Though I think I ended up with 3 Star Wars anyway.

It's technically Peter's theme, but it can go by the Face of Pan/You Are the Pan theme (since it's basically the same thing).

This post may help you out.

The people in this thread who just said "Prologue" from Hook.... did you really mean the Prologue Theme and not The Flying Theme?

See this post and this post.

Avner's Theme/A Prayer for Peace from Munich

Aren't those different themes?

Nope; "A Prayer for Peace" is the orchestral concert arrangement of Avner's Theme. There's also a guitar-dominated track that's actually called "Avner's Theme," so that may be the source of confusion.

So I should combine votes for Avner's theme and A Prayer for Peace?

I have combined votes for the Orca theme and the Shark Cage Fugue since no objections were raised to the idea. There were a couple of people that voted for both, feel free to add another theme, just let me know what it is.

Yeah, I'll have to go through those sometime. I kinda skipped all that last time around.

WHICH THEME? BE SPECIFIC!

The one titled Theme from Jaws on the soundtrack!!!

:D

Avner's Theme/A Prayer for Peace from Munich

There's no ambiguity in "theme from Jaws" Nick, we all know what he's talking about.

Indeed!

Just your friendly reminder that there's about one week left to submit nominations. I'm going to be gone all week (starting in just a few minutes here) so this is the last chance I'll have to pester everyone. Hopefully others will take care of that for me.

In that case...

In chronological order:

Main Title theme from The Towering Inferno

Orca theme from Jaws

The Mountain theme from Close Encounters of the Third Kind

End Title theme from Jaws 2

The Ballroom Scene from The Witches of Eastwick

Jim/Toy Planes theme from Empire of the Sun (as heard at the beginning of Toy Planes, Home and Hearth)

Theme from The Accidental Tourist

Theme from Seven Years in Tibet

Theme from Saving Private Ryan (NOT Hymn to the Fallen)

Recollections (The Father's Theme) from Catch Me If You Can

Yes. There's been, what, 9 or 10 people that have submitted nominations, and none during the week I was gone (other than Marc, which was right when I left). I know it's easier to click on a poll option that to actually write one of these things up, but the level of participation is far below what I'd thought it would be.

End Title (Theme) from Family Plot

Dracula Main Title

Neverland Theme from Hook

Flying Theme from Hook

Hook's Secondary Theme from Hook

"The Catamaran Race" from Jaws 2

The Cowboys Main Title

"Jim's New Life" from Empire of the Sun

"Somewhere in My Memory" from Home Alone

Whatever that theme is in Jaws when they get the first barrel on the shark and when we see Quint at the bow of the ship during the shark chase, that's my last vote.

Actually you probably should have done this poll first, wipe out the "franchise" themes since that was too predictable.

Yeah, maybe. I didn't even think about doing one this way until you and some others mentioned it. Still, I'll keep this open until this Sunday and then go ahead and get a bracket started with what I have.

So, right now there's a 5 way tie for 4th place (the last bye) and 6 themes tied for the last two bracket spots. Anyone want to help with that? You've got till Sunday. Thanks.

BTW, VP Barnsbury has created another wonderful group of logos for the new tournament. In fact better than the last ones, in my opinion. I can't wait to unveil them.

All right, I guess this is all we're going to get. I don't want to hear any complaining about the themes that made it from people that didn't submit nominations. Here's what we've got:

1st round participants:

5. The 1941 March

6. The Orca theme

7. Hook Flying theme

8. The Blue Fairy

9. Angela's Ashes

10. Born on the 4th of July

11. and 12. A 7 theme logjam that will be a preliminary round.

And the top 4:

4. Jane Eyre main theme

3. The Cowboys

2. Monica's theme

1. Jaws main theme
