Smeagol 0
That one and MS. found in a bottle were the first two short stories I read from him when I was in grade 7. Hooked up ever since. Anyone remembers when there were talks of a movie being in production called "The nightmares of Edgar Allan Poe"? It was going to be about his last days and about how characters from his stories would haunt his dreams or something like that. Michael Jackson was attached to star as Poe. Craaaaazy... Beowulf 4
I think I'll take a walk in the local cemetery at midnight and ponder the many frivolities that this mortal coil brings us during our short time here.Either that or get drunk. I have a huge book of Poe's works but I have no idea where it is.

Wojo 2,453
You're asking a Steelers fan what he's doing to celebrate the birthday of the man whose most celebrated work has been immortalized as a pro football team's mascot? Yea, I'll drink to that.

Wojo 2,453
Hooray for Poe! If only he hadn't died, he would have been 200!And tomorrow we can celebrate George Burns' 113th birthday. And the day after we can celebrate Stonewall Jackson's 185th birthday.Day after that -- OOH! -- it would be Ivan the Great's 569th birthday!Day after that, guess who would have turned 126? That's right, Edouard Manet!

Olivier 5
Thank you for this thread, Smeagol!I thought of doing the same thing here and elsewhere, but was afraid it might deemed pedantic.I am reading some stuff by him, and last night I watched Tales of Terror-- the "Black Cat" segment (which actually deftly mixes the story with "the Cask of Amontillado") is excellent.
