Goldsmith adored 'Schindler's List' ('95 AOL online interview quote) and mentioned Williams more than once as one of the greats. Williams did the same on some occasions, but most publicly after Goldsmith's dead.I guess one has to search for this stuff actively, but it's there.... Goldsmith, obviously LOVED Alex North (and qiute rightly so!!), and Williams loved Herrman (he once said that every note of Bernie's "runs through me", and that's why he scored "The Fury"). I'm not sure if Williams likes Morricone, and was a little put out when asked to "lean on The Mission" when composing "Empire Of The Sun". I have also heard that Goldsmith absolutely HATED Horner with a passion, and said that he was wasting his talent. Ho hum. I would like to think that most composers at least admire the work of their fellow professionals, if not actually liking every note that they compose. Goldsmith's reaction to a mention of Horner always seemed to range from mildly amused to downright sarcastic. Horner, prissy as always, complained at his Melboure film music seminar that Goldsmith would consider him an enemy for business reasons...See it that way: Williams certainly would have stared at you with 'E. T.' like eyes if you asked him about 90% of movies Goldsmith scored, Goldsmith certainly never stayed up late at night to see if 'Sleepers' was any good and so on.
