Every few days I will post a thread on a random score from my collection that we can discuss and rate. I made a playlist on my computer with one track of each score I've got, so by using the random play option, I'll be able to post a truly random score each time. Hopefully this will allow us to discuss some scores that would otherwise never be discussed. Also we can record the rating so that we can create a full list of the ratings given to scores by JWFan.com.

Today's score is White Fang 2: Myth of the White Wolf by John Debney. Are you familiar with it? What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? How do do you think it works in the film? What are your favourite tracks?

So far JWFan has rated:

See Soundtrack Ratings by JWFan.com.

This web page contains the ratings from all my previous polls as well as those of Blumenkohl's.

Final ratings are converted to a 1-10 rating for both rating systems so that they can be compared.

LOL! Least well-known score in my polls so far, by the looks of it. The film is an apparently pretty crappy sequel to a film called "White Fang", for which the music was written by Basil Poledouris and Hans Zimmer if I understand correctly. The movie involves a talking half-dog half-wolf kind of animal and takes place in either Alaska or Canada or so. Despite all this, the music for the sequel by John Debney actually is pretty darn good and I recommend the many people who are unfamiliar with it to give it a try if ever you have the chance. I give it a full 5 stars; it's maybe not the most original score ever, but it's great enthusiastic fun and does an incredible job at "painting" the vista's in which the movie takes place.

The first film lists 4 composers; Basil Poledouris with additional music by Hans Zimmer, Shirley Walker and Fiachra Trench.

I would love to hear Poledouris' music.

I'm not mistaken. I believe Zimmer did something on Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm. They co-composed Chicago Joe And The Showgirl. Zimmer worked on White Fang, and if Walker did as well, I'm sure they worked on it together. There was one other score I know they did together.

why bother making polls about such obscure films, in this case direct to video stuff.

Am I REALLY the ONLY person to know and like this score? That's just sad... it really deserves better than that.

I know how you feel, I did a few polls last year and hardly anyone was familiar with them. And most of them were from Jerry Goldsmith.

Because I'm hoping people might give the music a try. They might be pleasantly surprised.

Actually, I'm pretty sure they will be. Unless you hate music for obscure films even if it IS good music.

no I don't hate music, but I'm not going to give this one a try, even if it is good music. Don't have the extra cash to go there.

I didn't suggest you (or anyone else) hated music; I just wondered if people are not interested in good music written for obscure films (or TV series).
