Apparently John Williams was part of a birthday salute to Senator Ted Kennedy at the Kennedy Center this weekend. I don't know anything more than the article says, but maybe someone else has more info about his involvement.

Interesting to see Bill Cosby and John Williams talking to each other, they both looked like they were having fun. And Senator Kennedy has good tastes in music if he asked John Williams to conduct for him....

John Williams on Ted Kennedy: "I have been conducting the Boston Pops since 1980, so that is quite a while, and I think I have known him for that long." Unfortunately, my hearing once again fails me, so I cannot transcribe the entire little interview, but the video is here:

More videos on Yahoo.com show John Williams' involvement in greater detail.

Here's a portion of that night's celebration. You can just barley make out Williams on the stage conducting.

And here's another video of the event:

I would've loved to see what Bill Cosby was saying to JW.

Happy B-day, Ted.

"Hey, Bill, is that man in the suit over there your brother?"

"That is the President of the United States. You played at his Inaguration Ceremony, remember?"

"The Presidential Election is over!?"

I wasn't making some sort of political statement. He's celebrating a birthday of a friend who has a terminal disease! That deserves some applause, in my opinion. Hell, John McCain was there!

Then please explain.

Regardless of your political affiliation, I just think it's ridiculous to say that Williams conducting for somebody's party is "using his musical powers for good."
