One of the few, if only, redeeming elements of this turkey is John Barry's wonderful score. This was my very first soundtrack LP I bought at the age of 8.

My only gripe is that someone decided to place sound effects within 3 of the cues. One of them isn't obtrusive because it's at the beginning of the cue but the other two are out of place within the cues and are annoying.

Anyhoo, I give this one 4.5.

A very dark and romantic score with a dark and brooding theme for Kong. I think this album could use an expanded version, there are a few cues I would have liked added. But it's Paramount and there are issues with the rights, which is why FSM could only release the original album.

"Sacrifice" and "Breakout To Captivity" are my two favorite cues but as luck would have it, they have the sound effects.

to me the scores to all three King Kong film are terrific. None are interchangable but all deliver the goods for me. I cannot believe how graphic and unnecessarily brutal the ending of this film is. Its unpleasant to watch. As Mark said the score is the best thing about this movie.

Plus the ending has some of the worst blue screen effects I've seen. I know it didn't look that bad on the big screen but on TV they look horrible.

Of course we can't forget the GIANT MUPPET SNAKE..... :P

It is actually my favorite Kong score of all the films. Except for the disco cue (which segues into an awesome track mind you), it's a terrific score. The bi-tonal chord for Kong is very cool. Barry could write love themes like no one else in the '70s and this score follows suit with some beautiful writing for Dwan.

4.5 stars.

I saw it in the theater and the snake scared me

My most wanted unreleased music is the "Island Theme " (it appears in Blackout in New Your City) . In the film the theme plays when they watch the island slide show, they go through the fog ,they trek on the island..

and I almost never notice unreleased music outside of Williams scores

This is on my to-buy list. I actually like the movie, despite its campiness. I thought Rick Baker in the Kong suit actually did a pretty good acting job. And don't forget, this movie still holds the record for the largest animatronic built for a movie - the full sized Kong made by Carlo Rambaldi for the unveiling in NY scene.

I only saw the movie once, just a few months ago, but I really liked what I remember of the score.

Oh, and it happens to have perhaps the greatest movie poster artwork ever by the late John Berkey. (see avatar).
