It has returned so I watched the first episode of Black Mirror tonight. Meth Damon is Captain Josef Fritzl of the Space Fleet Enterprise in a totally loopy and pretty dark opening installment. It's basically what would happen if a Star Trek nerd had the technology at his disposal to imprison his real life enemies and failed sexual conquests inside a virtual prison which is designed around the creator's favourite Star Trek fantasies. His victims are his crew and he is their captain and god. If they don't play along they are made to suffer all manner of novelty afflictions and fates.

Ignore the enormous plot holes and there's some interesting and often amusing material here, but I'm afraid I couldn't really ignore the enormous plot holes for more than five minutes at a time. Certainly watchable, but not one of this show's best.

Fascinating.

Just finished the first half of Outlander S3 and the complete Mindhunter S1.

Started Gotham S1, nice TV series to watch while on vacation!

Black Mirror episode 2, and the end credits told me it was directed by Jodie Foster. Superb instalment actually, the performances from the youths in particular are all round excellent and once again Brooker cooks up a near future parable that stays in the mind a while after said credits have come and gone. I think this guy (known in the UK for years as a savage satirist on BBC 2) is going to take over Hollywood soon.

Mad Men season 5 is completed and there's two more left to go. This swaggering soap opera of epic proportions can be absolutely hilarious sometimes, it just so damn fabulous.

It seems to have a rather poor reputation, but I thought it was fine. Not the beste BM ep, but one of the things the series does very well, and that would be much more difficult to pull of a standalone film.

I finished the series a couple of days ago. Ep 4 is the standout this time.

I really enjoyed Jodie Foster's Black Mirror episode. I thought it was powerful and well-executed. Might be my favourite of what I thought was overall a weaker season.

I googled it after this but only noticed positive responses? I see the episode has been controversial with the ready to be offended twitter contingent though. Good. (their point is a pretty dumb one actually)

To be honest, I mostly just had a quick glance at IMDb ratings and comments, and that was right after I watched each episode, so my impression might be 1) off and 2) not up to date now that more people have watched it. And as I said, I did like it and found it wholly convincing.

Metalhead had the lowest rating, and rightly so, though I also don't consider that a failure. It's just a very single-minded, probably pointless, but still well done filler episode.

It might be that the season as a whole is slightly weaker than usual, but I was still happy with it. Although I did find the finale to be a bit too loosely assembled for its overall puzzle character.

I'm not sure I'm liking Season 2 of Stranger Things as much as Season 1.

This was the borest thing I ever saw of all my life.

The whole show or just Season 2?

Particularly the 2nd season, but I watched the first one with a lot of scepticism. Finally, I lost my time watching this supposedly "cult" series, I never really was caught, by any aspect of it, except maybe the 80's retro look.

I started Touch (with Kiefer Sutherland).

After 1 episode and a half, I'm not sure where it goes... Stopped it. Anyone have watched it completely?

Well, there's Wynona, the puky sheriff, the hobbit and the annoying kids.

What happened to good, dashing, wholesome sheriffs like Harry S. Truman? This Stranger Things bloke is a bit of a grub.

Episode 4 of Black Mirror was pushing it a bit, as well as feeling like a rehash of ideas from previous, better episodes (one of which was as recent as epi 3). The novelty of two main characters sporting scouse accents wasn't enough for me to gloss over this thick slice of nihilistic silliness; the girl regularly failed the emulation throughout (only the bloke was an actual Liverpudlian, which became a distraction for me). Even so, I do love how one week this show can be in the US with pretty big Hollywood stars and the next it's in the UK with a couple of grim up north regional faces. And in a science fiction series to boot! It's a special kind of quality, that.

I recently started Miyazaki's Future Boy Conan and I'm pretty split on it so far. The show feels very cinematic to me, and I like that a lot, but I'm not sure if I enjoy the story/source material very much. It's alright I guess

Recently watched the second Dirk Gently season. At least as whacky as the first one. Loved it. It's a shame it got canceled, but perhaps Netflix can pick it up if they can find someone to take over from Max Landis (who apparently is Weinstein Jr.).

Thanks for the warning.

I was quite happy to see Jason Biggs drinking a Southern Tier a few episodes ago. I missed most of the first episode so I didn't catch the setting, but upstate NY makes sense for that brand.
