As a downer i watched 10 minutes of the german try at THE OFFICE.

Is that the one where everyone works according to a strict herarchical system and is very efficient?

No, that was DAS BOOT.

OK. Tried. First episode was a heavily laboured cross between SHERLOCK and CRIMINAL MINDS or similar. The main attraction seems to be that Luther is a hot-tempered choleric and roughs up his suspects.

Tried two BBC comedy shows, I'M ALAN PARTRIDGE and The Armando Iannucci Show, the first was funny in the post-millenium THE OFFICE-way, the second even had some inspired Pythonesque bits. As a downer i watched 10 minutes of the german try at THE OFFICE.

Alan Partridge came before David Brent. Partridge is the original cringe character. I'm Alan Partridge is fecking hilarious and its second season is even funnier. In my top five favourite Brit TV comedies.

So Homeland is like Heroes?

Good first season, then derails?

It's like sequels. They are not made because of the quality of script (there is no script), they are made because the cash cow needs to be milked.

I watched something from S2, then. The dvd set is only 4€ at amazon, so i just ordered it for the additional comfort of having subtitles, a comfort without which i never would have made i through THICK OF IT.

Now on to the Fawlty Towers-episode with the hearing aid.

In the first season Alan is holed up at a travel lodge hotel (after being booted out by his wife). It's the very definition of cringeworthy comedy, it's almost excruciating at times which is exactly why I like it. Steve Coogan is a fucking legend. Oh and FYI the laughter you hear in the background isn't 'canned'; for some reason they recorded a live audience as they watched the completed episodes. You can certainly tell, it adds to it imo.

Unbelievably I missed The Thick of It during its original run. Coincidentally though I started streaming it this week. Oh my god, THIS is for me.

Do you mean "Stromberg"? I endured one episode once to see what all the fuss was about. IS there an English word for "Fremdschämen"?

The League 5x01 The Bachelor Draft

I thought season 4 of The League was the best yet so had high hopes for 5, but the premiere episode was mostly a meh.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia 9x01 The Gang Broke Dee

 Now that's more like it. Loved Dee's rise and fall as a comedic talent, which was all just a great gang prank of course. Fun to see the bald doctor from House in another role

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia 9x02 Gun Fever Too: Still Hot

Also hilarious. Mac and Charlie teaming up is always one of the best dynamics. Loved that Mac stabbed himself with the sword, the interaction with Dave Foley, the scene with the kids in the bar, and of course all of Frank's tv spots and the reveal at the end. Dee and Dennis trying to buy guns was a good subplot too

So somehow Vince Gilligan and his virtuoso writing team have ensured that the final season of Breaking Bad is the best of the lot, which is no mean feat.

about to watch the last Dome of the season.

I'm still sort of watching that, but have fallen behind a few episodes. I'll probably binge finish it now that it's complete.

We possibly would have kept watching if we hadn't gotten in Orange Is The New Black instead, though it got so bad Marcy has lost all interest in seeing how it ends, I might end up watching the end without her

I stopped at episode 3. It was already uninteresting then, and I kept reading how people got bored on this thread, so I didn't bother.

Last week in the store I saw a series produced by Spielberg about the aftermath of some apocalypse. Don't remember the name of the show but is it any good? Or is it another Lost-ish show?

It must be doing well enough since it got renewed for a fourth season that will air next summer

The League 5x02 The Von Nowzick Wedding

Hilarious. Loved the trade during the best man speech, the mini bar pranks, and of course Taco sleeping with Andre's mom

And I get that Nadine Velazquez is in demand now, but it was pretty poor that she wasn't at the wedding. At least they mentioned on screen why Andre's sister wasn't there

Critics and the writers themselves call “Ozymandias” the greatest Breaking Bad episode ever: *SPOILERS* http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/bastard-machine/greatest-breaking-bad-episode-ever-629634

I need to think about it. Last week's wasn't exactly a let-down either.

Caught some American Ninja Warrior Vegas Finals last night, it was impressive to watch. The qualifying and semi-finals were already impressive enough, and the final course is just a mind-bogglingly difficult task. Every competitor gets mad props from me for getting as far as they did.

Believe me or not, but I've wasted a couple weeks of my sorry life and watched all Prison Break.

Why, you ask?

No idea, boredom perhaps. Some of the writing was so bad I just couldn't stop. They should should replace the term "jump the shark" with the title of this show. Entertaining in the dumb kind of way - no consistency in character motivation whatsoever.

In season 4 it turns into Oceans 11 meets James Bond. The twists include:

brother turning out not to be brothers at all and their mother who's not dead after all becoming one of the villains and a McGuffing that can change the course of history, miraculous resurrection, you name it.

It's priceless. Breaking Bad has been dethroned! ;)

This is code for, "you know what? I really fucking enjoyed it, but I can't be seen to have done."

Haha, something like that. But trust me, there's something strangely addictive about this overcomplicated sequence of twists with no time for logic or common sense. Would give Christopher Nolan nosebleeds.

Yea I gave up on that one after 2 seasons. Dreck.

I couldn't get past the first episode. One has to be really bored (and boring, of course) to watch the entire thing. ;)

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia 9x03 The Gang Tries Desperately to Win an Award

Funny stuff. Loved Charlie's song about Paddy's!

New Girl 3x01 All In

The "will they / won't they" for Jess and Nick was much better than them actually being together. Winston steals the show again. Schmidt is a major dickhead.

Some channel I hadn't really heard of is doing a Robin Hood marathon all day -- primarily the first season. Even though the quality of the show isn't much better than, say, a CW original -- it's the tone and approach that sets it above it. I'm not saying Robin Hood is a great UK import, but they don't all have to be a cult favorite like Doctor Who, a period soap opera (Downton Abbey) or something deadly serious like Wire in the Blood or Broadchurch.

It's light, frothy, and fun. It doesn't pretend to be more than it is... and Andy Price's score is still a great one.

I was very pleased with Sleepy Hollow. However the first episode indicated that this was a 7 year journey.
