E.T. returns?

I'll be frank.

I hope this is complete and utter bullshit.

E.T. does not need a sequel. There is no way Williams will be able to top what he did with the original. There is no way Spielberg would be able to top himself. Keep making Indiana Jones sequels if you want but leave E.T. alone.

I'll be frank too. Those who feel that way, just don't watch it! :folder: No one will force you to watch it. But to top the original is not always the point...

Another E.T. movie will introduce the original to a new generation (kinda what the 2002 version did, but on a larger scale)...

For years Spielberg has been saying that there is no way he'd ever do sequel to E.T. Unless he got senile, he hasn't changed his mind.

The re-release of E.T. showed us the public doesn't really want E.T, back.

Yeah, I hate to admit it but it came and went with a whimper.

And for those who feel that people need to be introduced, well they can go to the video store and rent or buy the original,

That should introduce E.T. to a younger generation.

Oh god no more E.T.! :folder:

Spielberg please do not warm up old tales. Invent new stories and new magic. Wheezing on these embers will produce a lukewarm soup of controversy.

The rerelease brough in an additional 35 mill.... and that's only domestically. World-wide, it was probably around 70 mill.

That's not so bad for a rerelease after 20 years...

Amazing! I can't wait to see E.T. return in glorious CGI!!

Seriously though this is not going to happen, it's a bad idea, bad timing and I'm sure is just completely false, I'm pretty sure Spielberg is aware of the reception the prequels and Indy 4 got.

Is the script that has been around for years on the web called E.T. 2 Nocturnal Fears or something like that real?? That was also a bad idea

Seriously, the one thing I'm most curious about is to know how JW would tackle the project... :folder:

Even when the movie could be a bad one? Which in can only be, if recent developments in the world of misguided sequels is anything to go by. Pfft...

You would sell your soul to the devil, just for another good JW score. Frankly, anybody who welcomes a sequel to E.T. is deluded.

Anyway, this is all a load of shit. Spielberg himself stated that E.T. 2 will NEVER happen, in his recent Empire magazine special. So that's that one debunked, again.

Yeah, the reception each movie got from 600 mill to almost 1 billion!

The movie could be a good one, too. If everyone thought like you, no movie would be made at all!

You're just one pessimist, aren't you? For you, the glass is always half empty. :folder:

I wish everyone did think like me, especially Spielberg. Indy IV would never have seen the light of day.

And no I'm not a pessimist, thank you very much. I'm a realist. My glass is never half empty, I keep it topped up... until I've had enough.

John Williams could score a tampon commercial and this board would be clamoring for the 30 sec cue proclaiming as the best thing composed.

And any criticism of it would be heresy, as far as the 'trained' are concerned.

Well it would be nice to see a single positive comment from you about JWs music every once in a while. Some people would think you hate the man and his music.

Jeez, I can already picture the commercial. Williams' typical low brass & piano rumblings as the woman sits there unable to leave the house until someone hands her box of new improved followed by swelling strings and a noble trumpet solo that finishes with a boommmmtzzzzzzz.

This sounds like an absolutely awful and desperate idea. I'd rather know what happened to Roy Neary after years with the CE3K aliens than this kind of wrong-headed concept.

Yes. I agree.

Some people here are actually "honest fans". They love JW and his music, and they admit to it. If a new project is rumored, they get excited about it. No need to be ashamed if one feels that way...

Others here, though, they are so pessimistic, or cynical, or downright hateful. If a new project is rumored, the first thing they say is "God, I hope that doesn't happen!" Now, if they were just saying that to themselves, OK I can accept that. But they actually ridicule and put down others who DOget excited about it... yes, for them the glass IS always half empty.

Sorry it seems that way man, I love and admire JW really and I will do for ever, but I'm just a tad disillusioned by his niche in the industry lately, as I am with Spielberg as well. JW is a legend and always will be, but he ISN'T excluded from criticism, even as my idol, as much as it clearly irks the die-hards.

You just don't get it do? Seriously man, you don't give a fuck about E.T. The Extra Terrestrial and you don't friggin' deserve a sequel [score]. The fact that you don't understand what the hell I mean by that says everything there is to know about you and your blind fandom.

If you're disillusoned, OK, I can accept and understand that.

But, seriously, no need to go out of your way to disillusion others... :)

The re-release of ET was actually very well received in the UK.....

Would I stand a sequel? Well, to be honest I wouldn't say no....Spielberg could turn out an absolute pile of sh1te and it still wouldn't tarnish the original for me.....

I have no idea whether this rumor is true or not, but if it IS true, I wouldn't be surprised if Drew Barrymore was the one who approached Steven with the idea...

i hope it doesnt get made.

I dont want Williams being teared up in pieces by many members here, Again.

Don't worry, that'll only happen on a meaningless MB... :)

What I really want to see is The Color Purple 2: Sofia's Revenge

Lee - who is playfully flabbergasted that Marian's "do a movie starring an alien" comment was taken seriously, by Josh.

I need to watch the movie again, but I always thought the magic of the movie was seeing it from kids' eyes. Do a grownup version and it's a different kind of movie.

I'm not completely against it... just don't call it E.T. II.

He comes back, pissed off at his treatment by the officials. He brings backup.

E.T.'s back for revenge in E.T. 2: Payback. That would be great, can't wait to hear the flying theme turned into an evil march.

I think E.T. should go back in time to 1980 and prevent Elliot and Gertie's parents from splitting up and sending the father to Mexico. That means that the E.T. we know and cherish will reflect an alternate timeline, but it will let Elliot grow up without so much angst in his heart.

I'd watch that.

I'd watch that.

However during the time jump they mistakingly create a blackhole that interferes with the visitors coming to Devil's Tower. E.T. and Gertie land at Devil's Tower. The visitor's mothership is destroyed by the forces of the black hole.

The sight of a small awkward alien & a skanky brunette causes a ruckus among those assembled and embarrassment for Lacombe.

E.T. is taken away and Jillian, realizing she will never see Barry again, commits suicide leaving a suddenly lonely Neary, who begins a torrid affair with Gertie. Laughlin realizes something has gone awry but must act on his own.

However an older Roy Neary also emerges from the black hole and lands, he seeks out the younger version of him and Gertie and tells them they must rescue E.T. because if they don't the visitors will invade earth due to the damage inflicted by E.T. in creating the black hole. Earth will be destroyed and E.T. will never visit Elliot, which in turn will cause him to become a drunken bum. If E.T. does visit Elliot it will inspire Elliot to run for president as an adult at some point in the future and achieve world peace.

So begins a race against time as Laughlin attempts to rescue E.T. from a certain alien autopsy while the two Nearys and Gertie must find a way to get E.T. to the correct timeline.

They should ask George Lucas for the project.

Maybe in a few years we'll get E.T. vs. Alien.

I'm surprised no tampon commercial has ever used the Jaws theme...

I can see it... she's taking a bath... then there's blood in the water.... then a guy who looks like Quint kicks in the bathroom door. She screams to grab her regular tampons, and he gets one out, and makes a comment about how there's no way this little thing's gonna be able to handle such a flow (like Dreyfuss's boy scout knot) and exclaims "These'll stop 'er up!" and throws his own special tampon into the tub. It's so absorbent that it sucks up all of the water in the tub. We should try to score that, what cues would we use?
