I was going to suggest MANHUNTER. What possibly holds it in its favour is that, being a Michael Mann film, there wasn't a giant amount of score, and the only track from an anywhere near big band was In A Gadda Da Vida. Although some of the "songs", like the stuff by The Reds and Shriekback, were instrumentals. I can see it not going down well, but I'd love it, although I can't see it having the demand for an unlimited release, unless it was so cheap to put together they could do it. The score was performed by Rubini too, so that would take reuse fees etc out of the equation.

Yea. It's probably Manhunter, and it's probably unlimited not because they think it will be a huge seller, but because there are no re-use fees going to an orchestra that would necessitate a limited run.

I think the 70's disc will be one of the three:

The Hawaiians - Henry Mancini

Gator - Charles Bernstein

The Trial Of Billy Jack - Elmer Bernstein

More clues on tonight's releases, this time from Doug Fake

Two more new Intrada CDs become available this coming Tuesday, March 2. They'll be posted for ordering on Monday, March 1. For fans of the early seventies, we have a 2-CD set covering an entire score by one of Hollywood's most famous - and successful - composers of all time. It's a limited edition release in our Special Collection series with just 1500 copies for sale. It's really beautiful music and may sell out quickly. But, then again, my crystal ball broke ages ago.

Our other release is not limited and there will be copies to go around for some time. Our latest MAF series CD, this one gets a lot of requests. It's a potent meld of instrumental music with some vocals. Think of the eighties, a solid album that never came out on CD (until now), and a really good movie. We've even licensed one brand new score track that makes its world premiere here! Have fun!

Yes the 2 disc is from the 70's.

Although people at other message boards can't seem to comprehend the clues given and go off with all kinds of idiotic guesses that don't even fit the hints.

Still sounds like MANHUNTER. I'll be one happy bunny if this is true.

I posted my guess already. Or are you joking around?

Although it seems that I'm one of the few who came up with Manhunter. Most people can't believe Intrada would would waste their time. So maybe I'm wrong in my guess.

Maybe it's for the film Mannequin. :P

I'm undecided on the Mancini. Ok, I'm undecided on Manhunter also, but if it's unlimited, I have that much longer to make up my mind.

The Bernstein clips for Hawaii sound nice, too, but I never saw it. The things I'll buy for $1 shipping, I guess...

Speaking of Henry Mancini, when are we getting "Mommie Dearest"?! :) Hahaha. Seriously! I want to hear the cut music from when she is choppin at the rose bushes and says "bring me the axe!". I read somewhere it was originally scored in that scene.

Sorry, I couldn't resist bringing it up!

Is Manhunter a must-have? What kind of a score is it?

It's an eighties rock/synth kind of album... being a Michael Mann film, there's a heavy mix of score and song, although many of the songs are instrumental and as such part of the score. I love it, but I understand it may not be to some people's tastes.

Regardless of what people think of the score, it works well within the film.

My best suggestion would be to rent Manhunter and watch it first.

Any time a Mancini score is rescued from the "album presentation" ghetto (no disrespect to the deceased composer), it's an occasion to celebrate.

Thank you, Charlie (and Mark!). So it could be compared to Conti's For Your Eyes Only or Toto's Dune in that it reflects quite heavily the musical feeling of the era it was written in (I'd really like that; FYEO is one of my all-time favourite scores)? I guess I'm adding it to my next order. :D

Next Tuesday, March 16th, Intrada will announce two more titles. So far:

One Signature Edition at 1200. One Special Collection at 1000.

Also Roger posted a sample of one of them: link

I have no idea what it is.

It must be very obscure to warrant a two minute clip.

That's what I was thinking! To warrant two, in fact.

The "flavor" of it sounds awfully familiar, but I can't pin it down. At times it sounds 1970s-ish, at other times 1930s/1940s-ish. No idea.

People at FSM and Intrada boards seem to think is Les Baxter, a composer I am completely unfamiliar with

If people think that is Les Baxter, I would dearly love to know which movie they think it is....

Greg - who annoyingly knows this music (or at least the music from the first link above) but can't place it for the life of me...

Any time a Mancini score is rescued from the "album presentation" ghetto (no disrespect to the deceased composer), it's an occasion to celebrate.

I think that approach served him well on more than one occasion. For instance, the score for Breakfast at Tiffany's was little more than numerous variations of "Moon River", and while they were wonderfully effective in the film, I would imagine that it would become a very tedious listening experience. On the "other hand", however, I was watching Charade for the first time yesterday and there were many moments when I thought to myself, "Sweet Golly Moses, that is some awesome music that never made the album!" Ideally, labels will re-release more of his score albums in two-disk format containing both the film recording and album recording...after all, despite the omission of much wonderful music, the albums Henry Mancini produced were still very well assembled (in my opinion, of course).

I would kill for a release of Mancini's Condorman...the DVD release finally gave me an opportunity to get a decent rip of the Main Titles after I had persevered with a VHS audio rip (that Miguel was kind enough to provide me with) for so long - but a CD release would be very nice indeed! Some great music in that movie.

HATARI

CHARADE

PINK PANTHER

SHOT IN THE DARK (the variations on SHADOWS OF PARIS)

TWO FOR THE ROAD

...would be very welcome, indeed.

Goodness, yes. Release the film versions of "Meglio Stasera" and "Shadow of Paris" already!

Roger has announced that one of Monday's releases is "a straight LP re-issue. Actually, two LPs put on one disc. Both by the same composer."

And he posted a 3rd clip (unclear if all 3 clips are from the same release or not) linky
