King Mark 3,631
By the end of May most of the "big guns" will have been released :Wolverine,Star Trek,Angels and Demons, Terminator,Night at the Museum 2.What is left for the real summer?Harry Potter and Transformers and kids moviesShould studios start a bit later (after the TV seasons end in June) and spread out releases a little more? Didn't it used to be that way?Anyways now it seems like the summer movie season is already almost over by next week

Koray Savas 2,251
Not every summer movie needs to be a $300 million blockbuster. The Taking Of Pelham 123, Moon, Whatever Works, Public Enemies, Funny People... all movies I'm looking forward to. Hlao-roo 389
The Taking Of Pelham 123Not that Gregson-Williams was going to go all David Shire on us in the first place, but with Man on Fire as the temp score, I don't exactly have sky high expectations for the music. Williamsfan301 11
It's not so much that they're being released too early as there are too many of them released at that same time. They need to be spaced out more.
Hitch 57
Hollywood's got a backlog since the writers' strike. Can't wait for the new Star Trek movie.
bruckhorn 105
The movie industry's main demographic is 16-24 year-olds. Students with plenty of disposable income. In May (in the US), the television season draws to a close as does the school year (although, depending on the school, classes could be in session until mid-June). All those young 'ens with not much to do except worry about that money that's burning a hole in their pockets.A few years back ('04 or '05, I think), I read an article in the LA Times that said that the summer season was so packed with releases looking to cash in that between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend* there would be an average of nine movies opening every week. With that kind of log jam, it's no wonder that studios are looking to extend the summer season a little bit.* for those of you who don't know, Memorial Day in the US is the last Monday in May (it was May 30 way back when) and Labor Day is the first Monday in September. JoeinAR 1,949
No, summer blockbusters aren't being released too early.it should also be pointed out that the movies being released are not necessarily blockbusters.KM foolishly labels movies as blockbusters, and today for a film to really be a true blockbuster it must surpass 200 million, only Star Trek is on track to do that so far. Thats 1 film.

Koray Savas 2,251
Yes it's pretty bad. Apparently Christian Bale initially turned down the role and McG flew to London and begged him to sign on. Bale should have gone with his gut instinct.
A24 4,331
Are blockbuster summer movies beeing released too early? Absolutely! It's not hot enough outside. Without high temperature, the brain isn't cooked to the right condition so that it can cope with the average blockbuster.Alex
