An update on the 4th volume of X-Files, which I received from La La Land in an email today:

X-FILES VOL 4 CD collection is in the very final stages in production and will be released this year, hopefully by late summer. Due to the pandemic expanding manufacturing times and additional licensing issues, this new set will not be issued in a slipcase. It is coming though, we promise... and it's great!

No box, no sale!😡

I'm hoping this has that ONE cue I've been pining for thru three box sets.

Not getting my hopes up.

We were able to get quite a number of gems on this release, including the Lamp cue from Talitha Cumi and Scully's Tattoo music. Personally I was really excited about the music for Shadows and Pusher and that great cue from This Is Not Happening where Reyes sees her first UFO.

So here's a question for those who are more in the know... across all of these different editions have the tracks making up The Truth and the Light now all been released dialog-free?

data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAPABAP///wAAACH5BAEKAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAICRAEAOw==

The last two tracks missing from The Truth And The Light were from Oubliette and we covered them here.

I have about half an hour of X-FILES music on the Mark Snow compilation that fulfills my every need. Great show, though -- a seminal part of my youth.

It's a bit of an unfortunate business idea to mark Vol. 2 with "WHEN THEY'RE GONE THEY'RE GONE", while advertising re-issues of Vol. 1 and 3.

I love the show as much as anyone out there, and the music as well, but without the episodes to go with them, I don't think there's much incentive to listen to it.

I also think that eventually, each episode's score should be released whole, ordered by episode number. Digitally.

This releasing of music across seasons is just strange.

Including the much requested "15M1 Smoking Telegram" cue from Fight The Future is a great fan service, though :) Although I wonder why that cue turned up recently and the other three cues seemingly didn't.

FSM did that with UNCLE. But that was because they didn't want to blow their Goldsmith was on.one volume.

Is that a self-curated hald hour, or how it came?

For a show that must have tens of hours of music composed for it, I can understand that all you're interested in is how it plays, but for a show you say you love, I find it so hard to understand how you don't feel you need to hear any more than that.

I have The Truth and the Light in my rips folder, but I think the dialogue started to really irritate me, so when the more recent releases appeared, I removed it from my 'active' playlist. I have a 2-hour abridged Volume One, and the I Want to Believe OST, and that's all I need from this show. I've also got both Fight the Future releases (the original, and the remaster) but I never really listened to that one - I was being over optimistic about my interest in this franchise.

How it came.

While that is sufficient for me, I wouldn't be opposed to creating a....let's say 50-60 minute playlist album out of the oodles of material on these discs.

I love TTATL but the distorted dialogue was such a bewildering production decision. As if in the 90s, they weren't confident a mainstream score album could hold up on its own.
