I didn't realise already made movies could be remastered in such a format, but I certainly find it an interesting prospect if the technology is as good as Cameron obviously believes it to be. I'd personally be interested in watching a shitload of old movies in 3D, with Raiders of the Lost Ark springing instantly to mind.

I'd like to see this come to fruition.

Wasn't George Lucas talking about doing this with Star Wars? It was a few years ago, right after Episode III came out. I can't quite see how a 2d movie could be converted to "true" 3d. But if anyone could do it, it would be GL or JC.

I don't think it WAS possible before. Until Cameron MADE it possible...

Cameron didn't make it possible, there have been a few companies that have done tests on converting normal movies into 3-D. The first reel of Ep4 along with some of LOTR was shown in 3-D at Showest a few years back.

You could turn a 2D film into 3D in the 1960s. You just have to paint the depth maps frame by frame...by hand. There's software algorithms for doing this automatically.

Hell, there's algorithms for extrapolating 3D models from 2D photographs. Amazing stuff.

I'd rather see ALIENS in 3-D more than any other Cameron. He may not think the visual hold up, but the idea of 3-D xenomorphs coming out of walls at me is something I'd kill to experience.

Just imagine that Titanic love scene in 3d. It would feel like you were actaully there, watching a chihuajhua mount a golden retreiver.

Jeff-who fell asleep in the theatre right around the time Leo put on the tux, and woke up when the water was crashing through the windows.

If not, I'm sure he did a LOT to advance the technology in that regard...

Ooh, that would be fun.

I'm pretty sure T2 has already been in 3D. I remember being on some ride at some theme park where the T1000 comes at you through the screen.

That was a separate thing, specially filmed in 3-D, as far as I remember. The old DVD had a featurette on the making of it.

Are you referring to the shitty Jaws: The Revenge style 3D or the very latest iteration some call 'True 3D', as Cameron's Avatar attests to be? Because I'd be very surprised if Cameron is planning to re-release Titanic in a format which is anything less than visually spectacular ie; not Jaws:The Revenge.

I think he means that's what they did in the 60s. I'm sure with digital equipment it's a whole new ball game now, even if some movies are still working with stereoscopic 3-D. I imagine Cameron will use the Imax style, especially as he did GHOSTS OF THE ABYSS in Imax3D.

Oh, and Quint I think you mean this:

That would be the Terminator attraction at Universal Studios, Koray - it is indeed in 3D, but it was shot that way.

I keep hearing about these plans for 2D films to be 3D-ified, but I've never actually seen one. I can imagine it's quite an intensive process...you have to create a whole new copy of each frame with the right objects shifted a little bit in exactly the right direction by the right amount. They must have to mock up every frame in CG model form...and then the computer has to fill in the spots that used to be occupied by the objects that were shifted.

On a side note...Jurassic Park in 3D would be a lot of fun.

Ya I believe Lucas was supposed to release all six Star Wars movies in 3-D starting with the Original Trilogy. I think they were supposed to be out by now, but with his concentration on the live action TV series and Clone Wars cartoon it's very much possible he's put the whole thing for the 3-D movies on the back burner...for now at least.

Regarding Titanic in 3-D...I have no interest in seeing that film. It bored me when I was dragged to the theater to see it. Actually, it bored my friend and I who went and saw it for the hell of it.

I don't know if I could watch a 3+ hour movie in 3-D.

It's hard on the eyes for me to sit thru some of the 45 minute IMAX fils that are done in 3-D.

well considering it would be an immersion 3d rather than stuff thrown at you 3d I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Maybe hell release it in 3D and Sensurround.

Towering Inferno would be awesome in 3D. Those sitting up close would burn to death.

That's what I mean, most of the IMAX films I've seen immerse you and it's stressful on my eyes at time.

Granted it would be on a smaller screen but I don't think I'd be too comfortable.
