Return Of The Jedi definitely doesn't belong on that list and the fact that it was rated slightly higher than Back To The Future is just wrong on so many levels. Back To The Future was a much better film than Return Of The Jedi by far.

Overall it has some pretty good ones, a lot that need to be higher: A Clockwork Orange, The Fifth Element, Children Of Men, etc. Also a lot of these I wouldn't consider science fiction, like Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind.

This is not a list I can really "digest", because I have probably seen ten of the listed films at the most, but...

I am glad that Alien is rated as high as it is.

I think Close Encounters of the Third Kind is more profound, significant, and better than The Terminator can ever hope to be (not that I am implying that was James Cameron tried to do so)

I like that Tron made the list.

I thought Robert Wise's Andromeda Strain was incredibly dull(much like the book, I think)

I would remove Event Horizon from the list.

I've never understood the critical love for it. I saw it in the theaters and spend the next couple of days trying to figure out what the hell I had just watched.

Nice to see Serenity and Galaxy Quest make the cut.

Thanks for the list! I totally agree with Blade Runner and 2001 being the best sci-fi films ever made. I'm also glad to see Tarkovsky's Solaris made it into the top 10.

Ugh... I can't believe I still haven't seen 2001, Alien or Blade Runner. What's wrong with me? These films sound so good.

Indeed, I thought there were no such people on these forums! ;)

Fairly good list. Where the position of the films are in the list, doesn't matter really as they probably end up that way for all manner of reasons. Good to see ones like Dark Star,Logan's Run,Altered States,Westworld and Barbarella in there.

No Capricorn One? Isn't the story meant to be suggesting a major science 'Fiction'?

Others on the page point out ommisions like Starman and

.

How about Kiddy films like

and
?

Don't feel bad, I haven't seen Blade Runner or 2001 either but Alien I have seen.

Hell yeah, FotN is a classic! ;) Also has a lovely score, I used to whistle the main theme all the time as a kid. :)

I can't understand the love for Serenity. The show was okay, but it must be some groupthink mentality that sends people all euphoric over this one.

Admitedly the movie is only a shadow of the TV show's genius, but that doesn't mean it's not more than worthy on its own.

Return Of The Jedi does not belong.

More so than Jurassic Park.

No King Kong (1933)

I wouldn't label that science fiction.

Overall it has some pretty good ones, a lot that need to be higher: A Clockwork Orange, The Fifth Element, Children Of Men, etc.

Yes, I wouldn't agree with every last detail, but overall this seems to be a fairly good list.

Also a lot of these I wouldn't consider science fiction, like Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind.

I probably wouldn't think of it if I were listing scifi movies, but I can agree with the label. It is based around fictional technology, after all. I believe they were ranking the movies by their qualities as scifi movies; if not - if they were ranking them by their overall qualities as movies - I believe Eternal Sunshine should be higher. It's one of my absolute favourites and one I find fascinating and engaging every time I watch it.

Acceptible list...no A.I., but I'm hardly surprised. I'm probably alone on this, but I think there are too many films one there that might technically be sci-fi, but are really far more related to other genres (Star Wars and fantasy, Alien and horror E.T. and...I dunno, something other than sci-fi, Wrath of Khan and adventure Eternal Sunshine and three or four other genres).
