RIP and thank you for some hilarious and great filmic moments Mr Hughes, your movies studied the everyday growing up themes which will live on in the lives of teenagers to come. #SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,251
I just saw Ferris Bueler's Day Of a few days ago.Enjoyed several of his movies, he was pretty special in an often generic genre.RIP

Red 73
Very sad news. In a relatively short period of time this guy did some truly endearing and beloved work, whether he was writing, directing, or both. He will certainly be missed by many. JoeinAR 1,759
You can look at Hughes as a local color filmmaker. Never has the city of Chicago looked so lovely as it did in his films. His 3 teen comedies form 84 to 86 are classics of the genre, with Ferris Bueller at the very height of the genre itself. His two adult comedies, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, and Uncle Buck has souls, and more than their fair shares of belly laughs.Pegged by the critics of the day as crude, rude, and socially irresponsible, how can anyone not laugh at...There so perky! Hlao-roo 388
He actually wrote and produced five teen comedies between '84 and '86. And people frequently lump 1987's Some Kind of Wonderful into the group as well.

JoeinAR 1,759
yeah but Weird Science is the least of them, but it does have a really good cast, including Robert Downey Jr, and is still quite watchable.

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,251
If once considers the High School comedies before John Hughes (Corky's, Revenge Of The Nerds and their countless sequels and rip ofs), then he definatly brought something to the genre.
