The Official La-La Land Records Thread

Not the most optimistic sounding replies from MV. It can't be helpful that some studios have closed their vaults, especially if LLL were deep in negotiations on acquiring certain scores.

Withholding big releases until Black Friday, if signed off and ready for printing, must be quite the conundrum. It might make more sense to release titles as soon as approvals are complete, financially.

I don't like the "but it's WB"-part.

It connects to this earlier quote from him

All planned WB titles are currently in limbo.

Yes Jay I am aware of the large number of JW releases by LLL, I've got each one and cherish them all (except for Jane Eyre, missed out on that one :)

I wasn't complaining "too much" as you put it, simply wishing for another release, that's all.  Is that wrong?  Last I checked this is a JW fan website and forum for us to discuss our wants for more releases.  Let's not play thought police please, there's enough of that going on in this world, thanks!

The best thing we can all do to help them stay in business is buy all LLL titles directly from them, and try to buy as many as you can

Thank you so much for taking the time to type all that! (Late acknowledgement because of computerless holiday abroad.) Nothing for me yet.

Some more news including one particularly disappointing piece of information:

Hello LLL team, please can we hope for a KINGDOM OF HEAVEN box some day ? There is so much good music in the movie (director's cut) and it's a a so great score.

Most of all: A COMPLETE MATRIX , you did the second and the third , why not the First ?

Also a dream : a Complete John Carter of Mars ? or Perhaps from Intrada/Disney.

JC would be Intrada most likely

Matrix -- Varese

Kingdom...it was cost prohibitive

Came out in 2005, wonder if it's the 2005 rule?  Or just too many notes!

Too many notes + the Year 2005 = C&C collectors worst nightmare.

It was recorded in London so that doesn't matter.

I learn something new every day at JWFan forum

But in all seriousness, that's good though.  But only LLL would get this right, so it's sad they don't have the money for it yet.

It's quite simple really. The re-use fees that annoys as so have to do with AFM (American Federation of Musicians). "American" being the key word here. That's why so many studios record abroad. I think musicians in London get more per session but they get paid only once. :)

is there missing music from this?  I haven't listened to the score in a long time, but i remember the directors cut of the movie made it slightly redeemable for a hollywood take on the crusades.

MV mentioned to that he was trying all these years to get this to happen but I guess the math is the reason.Hopefully things may turn around.

A complete John Carter? I would've thought that any chance of an expanded release would've been scuppered by the film bombing at the box office? If that's the case, then perhaps there might be hope for an expanded Tomorrowland...

If I recall correctly, the OST was too infused by HanZ drums.

Same as with pretty much every single John Powell score. It's just the way it is. In any case Kingdom of Heaven is still probably the finest score to a historical epic in the 21st century. The mix of orchestra, ethic colour and vocals is just exquisitely done. It's both modern enough for contemporary audience and traditional enough for us old farts. Way ahead of the competition. And there's tons of unreleased material to justify a release. Which makes it even more tragic that we might never see it.

I would love to have the complete John Carter.

I don't want to watch that video.

Tell us Jay, tell us what new JW expansion will be released in september.

Tell us at least the decade where it was originally released...

I haven't seen the video either, and can't because I'm at work

I don't know why people on this forum assume every announcement from LLL will have something to do with JW.  He's just one of hundreds of composers they work with

They also say that one Black Friday title is approved, and one is almost done; the latter is "something the fans have been waiting for for a very long time", according to MV.

At least we know that the only thing holding up Top Gun from coming out is Top Gun: Maverick

I've lost track; we once got the info that 2 Sony titles made it out before that window temporarily closed, because work had already started on them. We still haven't gotten those, have we?
