To people who have already received their ID4 sets, did the case crumble to pieces just like every other 2-CD case I've ever received from La-La Land?

Surprisingly, no. At least mine hasn't yet. I expected it to fall apart like Godzilla's case, but it actually held together.

No the ID4 case has not broken to pieces (yet) but surprisingly the sturdier Masters of the Universe case did. Generally the double CD cases feel like they were made of fragile super thin egg shells and that just one small wrong move could shatter the hinges. :P

I think generally the specialist labels' cover art is usually more interesting than you'd get from a major. Some of Joe's work at FSM is amazing, and the Prometheus art always looks really cool. I like Intrada's generally, but they use the same font all the time. Consistency is good, but I don't think it always fits with the art itself. But I'll take an imperfect cover with all the great music we're getting.

Does anyone out there think that the FSM "house style" is unnattractive and cheapy looking?

My case is absolutely sturdy, and none of the 4 releases I have from LLL have felt like they're about to break.

Maybe the UK has a very delicate postal system :P

He's somewhat coy with his wording if you continue to read.

I know he had mentioned wanting to release some of Faltermeyer's scores but something was holding them up.

Nice, I'll definitely be picking up the two Goldsmiths and Lost In Space! Maybe Taking Woodstock too

I'd say Not Without My Daughter is worth it - if you like the 80s Goldsmith synth sound. I enjoy it, at least. I believe Goldsmith described it as being one of his "bottle cap" scores though.

http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/daily/article.cfm/articleID/6347/An-FSM-Glossary-of-Terms/

Bottle Cap - Attributed to the late Jerry Goldsmith who commented on the sometimes fanatical desire of his fans to want to own every single thing he did. He stated that some of his scores were not necessarily worthy of album releases or really listenable to as stand alone experiences, but some fans clamor for them all the same. He likened the practice to collecting Bottle Caps. It has come to mean collecting a score, for the sake of collecting regardless of the merits of the score or whether the collector actually likes the music or not. Bottle cap collecting is generally a practice of Completists, a name given to those who want and collect everything from a composer’s output. Although the term Bottle Cap is used regularly in reference to Goldsmith’s scores because of the origins of the term, it has since been applied to other composer's scores as well. Not necessarily a derogatory term, but it can be used as such. Bottle Cap collectors have been known to adopt graven images such as the white ponytail and worship at the altar of composer X.

I remember a bottle cap type fad when I was in my early teens. They were cardboard token like things, I got some with a Nintendo Power subscription.

I remember those back in junior high as well. They were a very brief fad in the late 80's (I believe?). I love the bottle cap candy though.

Ah, back when The Simpsons was hilarious. I had a brief fad with pogs in the early to mid-90s. I recently remembered the Tomagotchi fad, and wanted to buy an original. Those things are fucking expensive, ranging from $60-$120 for a new one. They have crappy new ones for like $10, but it's not the same!

I had Jurassic Park and Star Wars pogs and ones that came with Star Trek: The Next Generation figures but were called "Space Caps". I still have some of the Star Trek ones sealed in baggies with the figures.

MV updated his avatar to a cleaner version of the monkey of death pic

1801.gif

What is this a clue for?

Remember, 2 releases, from 2 living composers who have never had a LLL CD before. I think they're being released May 25th.

The composers we came up with a few pages back were:

John Powell

Hans Zimmer

Harry Gregson-Williams

Howard Shore

Klaus Badelt

John Barry

Don Davis

John Debney

Elliot Goldenthal

Eric Serra

David Shire

Lalo Schifrin

Dario Marianelli

Ennio Morricone

Alexandre Desplat

James Horner

Craig Safan

WOW! I bet you're right!!!!!!!

I can't read what the other tombstone says....

It says "RIP Not Like You". Or MOT like you.

Ok... WILD guess... DEAD RINGERS by Shore (movie about twins who are very different).

If it is RETURN TO OZ I will be so happy. And it's a good clue since a flying monkey is very "OZ" even though there aren't any in the film. I actually own the old Bay Cities CD and it's a very good representation of the score. Though a new, remastered version, and possibly a complete release, would be amazing.

It is also the score's 25th Anniversary, I believe.

The only reason why I actually doubt this is what it is because of the recent FSM interview with David Shire. You'd think, if anyone, it would be them to reissue that score now because of it.

What other scores did Bay Cities produce that may be desired?

Return to Oz is cool. That's one of the rare non-JW scores I desire at this point. I love that really haunting melody (the main theme) when Dorothy is suddenly in an ocean on her way to Oz with the moonlight.

Return to Oz is such an underrated little gem. The movie could have been even better, but even what we got was pretty daring with it's heart in the right place. I might pick the score up.

I only have a CDR of Return to Oz. I'd definitely pick up a new release.

I got the original CD from ebay... didn't even pay much... So for me it depends on whether there is any worthwhile new stuff on it. Great soundtrack, though

FSM's the only other one to ever run a sale, no?

Makes me wonder how long they have to have a slow/non-seller in stock in substantial quantities before they decide to put it on a sale.

Someone posted a list of Intrada releases and how many were remaining (link), and a lot of them had quantities like 500/3000 left, yet the only thing they seem to do is move certain scores to the front page before release night. The 'Anything Goes' section has only one score, so I assume their business model doesn't revolve around quick sellouts for everything.

Charlie you beat me by 4 minutes posting that here lol. I'd say both titles explain MV's avatar nicely! Except for the Bay Cities part...

Anyway, I updated the wiki.

I hope HOOK is one of their LEs for June 15 or July 20, but I still maintain its probably their November 30th release.

Yeah, we were way off. I'm hoping the Bay Cities part still might be a clue to an eventual release of RETURN TO OZ. I'm glad it's not next week as I have enough to buy as it is!

(responding to John Debney's facebook post about LLL doing the OST of Predators)

We are majorly psyched to be working with Mr Debney on this awesome score (and yes, he does use Silvestri's themes)! We should have it out in time for Comic Con!

Guess that's the other July 20th retail release!

MV's avatar explained:

Recently completed art for use by La-La-Land Record's for FSM's message board. The intention of the sketches is to give a hint as what the label's upcoming release might be. Since it was just announced on FSM, it's for their new release for the tv series DEAD LIKE ME (LLLCD 1132), scored by Stewart Copeland. These are quick little illustrations that have been a lot of fun to do.

Nice work!

Nicely within Dead LIKE ME's tone!

Thanks, Randall! I wanted to add in the bubblegum bubble that shows up on the Season 1 DVD cover, but thought that that would be a DEAD give away. ;)

Any chance you might be able to post the older La-La Land drawings that were used previously? I love this one.

PS love the Bay Cities reference!

HaHaHa!!! Thanks! Yeah, MV Gerhard thought, at first, that the BAY CITIES reference might upset Bruce Kimmel, but I contacted Bruce and explained that it was more of a homage to a great label and he graciously said "I'm not offended at all, and you have my complete blessing" and added that he thought that it was a nice nod. :)
