Its been a preeeeeetty dry year from LLL for me thus far as well.  Women Warriors in August, Always in June, X-Men in May, and Friday the 13th in March.  X-men was a blind buy and I didn’t care for it, but the others were good and what I expected.  

 

I feel like you'd enjoy The Orville scores, as well as Glory and Star Trek 2

I had a couple of great releases this year, with Star Trek II and Glory, as well as being late to pick up Far and Away (an excellent release, IMHO).

 

I am still waiting for the Planet of the Apes box to come back into stock, which is a worthy upgrade from the Varese expansion of the 1st score, and will close the book on the classic scores.

 

If they EVER get to give the Indiana Jones scores this treatment, I'll be happy, but it does not look likely any time soon.

I've only bought Hard Rain from LLL this year, but Varese and Intrada have otherwise provided some great stuff, and a few new scores.

 

(I did also buy LLL's Minority Report a few weeks ago, but that doesn't count as it's not this year)

Ah well I'm always up for some more Jerry... although I might have to reserve judgement as I do have both of the prior releases. I think the biggest thing would be Ace Eli in stereo, but I can't tell if that's the key sonic improvement or it's just better sounding mono. T!T!T! isn't one I listen to often but, again, depends on the sound upgrade (if any).

I suspect LLL would do neither of those scores.

 

Nixon's OST was Hollywood Records (owned by Disney) so more likely an Intrada release.

 

Presumed Innocent's OST was licensed through Varese, so most likely a Varese release.

They could re-release those two OOP expansions  that appear to be going for a lot of money on the secondary marketplace without further expansion!

I hope they do!  Goldsmith releases apparently sell, so maybe they’ll take that money and release something better with it later on.

Okay I clearly need to be far more verbose in future.

 

1. This was not a question as in "do you guys think they will re-visit The Edge and Chain Reaction", it was more "mmm, I wonder if they are going to release every single thing that Jerry did for Fox."

 

2. This was also not relating to anything expansion-wise. I've been collecting film music on CD since the mid 80s and am pretty familiar with what has and has not been expanded with regard to A-listers.

 

3. I also do not understand the seeming bias of everything towards expansions and C&Cs on this forum, as in "oh look, JTWfan77 is talking about The Edge and Chain Reaction, he must not know about the expansions".

 

4. So to avoid any further confusion:

 

"I wonder if LLL is going to release, in some form or other, each and every single score that Jerry Goldsmith worked on for Fox. It will be interesting to see if this is the case or not. If they do get to the 90s releases, I wonder how they will deal with stuff that V/S holds in perpetuity (and may have already released - such as Chain Reaction). La-La Land Records and 20th Century Studios proudly present a new collection of classic Jerry Goldsmith scores for film and television composed for 20th Century Fox: GOLDSMITH AT 20th Vol. IV – ACE ELI AND RODGER OF THE SKIES / TORA! TORA! TORA!. Bringing back out-of-print favorites while also debuting previously unreleased music, this collection will feature new authoritative liner notes and unified packaging sure to please avid collectors but also serve as a perfect gateway for listeners experiencing this music for the first time.

 

Volume IV showcases two more of the composer’s original feature film scores – this time from two ’70s aviation-themed dramas – 1973’s post WWI father-and-son-barnstorming story ACE ELI AND ROGER OF THE SKIES, starring Cliff Robertson and Eric Shea, and directed by JOHN ERMAN, and 1970’s TORA! TORA! TORA!, the Pearl Harbor docudrama starring Martin Balsam, Joseph Cotten, E.G. Marshall, So Yamamura and Tatsuya Mihashi, and directed by RICHARD FLEISCHER, KINJI FUKASAKU and TOSHIO MASUDA. While the films are only connected tangentially by the concept of aircraft and pilots, both scores on this 2-CD presentation explore wildly different sonic landscapes and emotions, and both soar as works of musical art.

ACE ELI presents two unique programs – The first is the original Goldsmith score in mono, in the film’s original sequence. The film was later recut and additional music was written with contributions from Alexander Courage. These cues, and the song “Who’s for Complainin’?” are presented in stereo alongside surviving stereo Goldsmith compositions in a sequence closer to the released version.

 

TORA! TORA! TORA! utilizes the same master as our previous release.

Both previously out-of-print scores return here with all-new art design by Jim Titus and new in-depth liner notes by writer Jeff Bond. The reissue, limited to 2000 units, is produced by Mike Matessino and Neil S. Bulk, with ACE restored, mixed and mastered by Chris Malone and TORA mastered by Dan Hersch and Mike Matessino.

La-La Land Records and Paramount Pictures present a 25th Anniversary re-issue of Shirley Walker & John Carpenter’s score to the 1996 Paramount Pictures futuristic actioner ESCAPE FROM L.A., starring Kurt Russell, Steve Buscemi and Cliff Robertson, and directed by John Carpenter. When it came time to score his big-budget follow-up to the cult classic ESCAPE FROM N.Y., director/co-writer John Carpenter, who had inventively scored most of his films (HALLOWEEN, THE FOG, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA), collaborated with the ingenious Shirley Walker (BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, BATMAN MASK OF THE PHANTASM, WILLARD) to create the perfect musical soundscape for the further exploits of Snake Plissken. Building upon Carpenter’s iconic synth template, Walker harness her trademark orchestral power and the result is a full-charging heroic score that takes Plissken to new action-packed heights. Produced by Dan Goldwasser, this re-issue contains the same in -depth liner notes by writer Dan Schweiger and the same audio presentation as our initial expanded release, mastered by Doug Schwartz. This is a limited edition of 1500 Units.
