Edmilson 7,426
I remember the old OST for The Ring was an abomination, mixing Zimmer's score for the first movie with some other dudes' score from the second in a really bizarre way. At last this score (his first for Gore Verbinski) will have a decent release. enderdrag64

Dr. Rick 1,155
Well another month and no JW goodies... The lack of JW expansions or premier releases for his 90th birthday celebration has been very disappointing. Only 2 so far this year?! Yeah I know there’s been reissues and concert works but they’re not the same caliber as a premier or expanded release. I am looking forward to the Fablemans OST but I’m not expecting an earth-shattering work. Yes, but a notable anniversary doesn't magically make all studio/licensing/misc issues suddenly go away. They could for instance have a release or two prepared far in advance, knowing his 90th was approaching, and then something or muliple things get in the way and delay them. bollemanneke 3,342
Why can't these things be planned properly so that delays don't happen? Or why is it so damn difficult to just approve a title by a label that's been in the business for how many years?
Popular Post Jay 37,336
On Maurizio's podcast earlier this year, Mike indicated he already had 5 new John Williams expansions mastered (and approved by Williams) that he intended to have come out this year A little while later after the first two of those (Presumed Innocent and SpaceCamp) came out, he came back on Maurizio's podcast and indicated the next 2 should still be out this year but that one wouldn't be out till next year A little while later on Maurizio's podcast again, he now indicated one was coming for Black Friday and the other was delayed until next year It is not the fault of anyone at the specialty label, or the producer of the expansions, or the composer of the music, that 2 of the planned 5 titles got delayed until next year The fault entirely lies with the managers, lawyers, and other types at these huge corporate entities that need to sign off on these things. The specialty labels and their producers are at the mercy of these people and can't really do anything to make them act faster. Everything already mastered will certainly come out, and more new expansions are being assembled, mastered, and approved all the time, and they'll come out as the people who need to finally give their approval. In the meantime LLL nicely chose to spend the effort to get Close Encounters, ET, and Jurassic Park back in print for all the fans who missed their earlier editions, and Williams himself has filled the year with new compositions and concerts, and DG has released music recorded last year. 2022 is one of the biggest years for Williams releases there is when you look at all the music labels combined. The fact we're only getting three new MM expansions is unfortunate, but you can't really blame anything for that except corporate beurocracy. The people who care about about getting these out did their part long ahead of time. Holko, Brando, Andy and 5 others
bollemanneke 3,342
Oh, I'm fully aware the labels or MM aren't to blame. I just don't understand why, in 2022, when JW turns 90, waiting for approvals is still an issue. How many expansions will these labels have to put out before the bureaucrats can just say: LLL, sure, approved. Why can't they drop this circus and worry about other things? Surely they've got more interesting stuff to tackle?
Popular Post Jay 37,336
I don't think the lawyers and such at these giant corporations know or care that it's JW's 90th birthday year But I have no insight into what goes into their decisions making processes and I doubt any of us ever will I think it mostly comes down to film score albums by a specialty label that will sell 1,000-3,000 copies are absolute tiny peanuts compared to other merchandising items they have to approve Yavar Moradi, MaxTheHouseelf, enderdrag64 and 3 others
Yavar Moradi 2,593
Things have gotten slower much more difficult in terms of working with multiple different studios. Mike talked at length about this specifically in regards to Fox stuff (how it used to be so simple and quick and easy, and now takes so much more time and work -- for a variety of factors which he explains!), on these two Goldsmith Odyssey podcasts: https://goldsmithodyssey.buzzsprout.com/159614/6920147-odyssey-soundtrack-spotlight-take-her-she-s-mine-1963 https://goldsmithodyssey.buzzsprout.com/159614/11302249-odyssey-soundtrack-spotlight-goldsmith-at-20th-vol-v-music-for-television-1968-1975 (I'm personally really hoping Mike gets to revisit Williams's Conrack and The Paper Chase from Fox sometime soon, so I can retire my old FSM album where they are paired with The Poseidon Adventure... I'm sure the sound can be greatly improved with a quarter century of new tech advances, plus we need decent cover art for both!) Yavar
