Music of the Jedi

Forgive me if this is too trivial to constitute a Thread, but I just learnt of this while looking at the Videos section of the Main Page. Unfortunately, the video seems to have been removed...assuming people have seen this, what aspect of the scoring process did this documentary cover, primarily? Was it as informative and in-depth as the BBC documentary for Star Wars Episode V: Empire Strikes Back?

First off the documentary/interview is considerably shorter (about 15 min.)than the BBC one although it is similar in style, Williams interviews interspersed with interviews with the likes of Lionel Newman, Andre Previn and Steven Spielberg and segments of showing Williams conducting Boston Pops. This short documentary also borrows some footage from the BBC documentary, mostly the spotting session footage for the ESB Carbon Freezing sequence. Williams also shows very briefly in an elementary way how music can affect the images and how it depicts the characters (examples Imperial March and Luke Skywalker's theme).

I love this comment from Spielberg:" You wouldn't know it from looking at John that he has the fiery soul of Stravinsky or Prokofiev of the yesteryear. But he is that way. He is full of energy and full of great musical confidence."

Well, if it's the 20/20 segment, I have a foggy memory of it. I remember JW talking about how he scored the carbon-freezing chamber scene. That's all I remember (I was a kid). Considering that the 20/20 segments are only about 15 minutes, I can't see how it would be better than the 1980 BBC doc.

I would like to see this, to remind me of how old I am!

Oh dammit I thought this was again on on youtube.com! THis was fun to watch, it didn't contain anything about TESB only ROTJ. You saw him rehearsing "Parade of the Ewoks" with the Boston Pops, ALSO

Footage from the LSO Rec Session of ROTJ!! You saw him conducting "Sail Barge Assault" (The Revised Version) and also listening to the Recording of "Luke and Leia" in the rec. booth, while looking to the score, with Williams humnming along... :)

Also you can see further footage of his home, where he keeps ALL his written filmnscores (The actual written orchestral notes!), beautifully bound to books on a bookshelf!!

I really wanted to download it, but just the other day, it was gone :(

Yes there is indeed much new and interesting material in this short documentary. Those shorter clips of JW conducting on the scoring sessions and those book shelves full of his scores. I guess at least conductor scores are safely at his house, if not the full versions.
