The price is the real deal here. Luckily I have most of the yellow gold pressing with the notes and only a few titles were missing in my collection which got compensated in this set.

I was very much satisfied with this Warner Classics compilation:

5099951576653.jpg?1467636380

So I got another one from the same kind of line:

0190295955618%20-%2050%20Best%20Film%20C

Still a classical compilation but the gimmick topic here is that they're pieces that were used in movies.

Yes, I bought Empire back in 2003. :) And since I got all the other Gerhard recently I might as well complete the collection.

You know you'll need the Raksin one... You know it... Did you?

I had to order it directly from the Vocalion website. Well, it's part of the same collection, but for this album, they let Raksin conduct his own material, which was a good idea!

Yes, the Vocalion re-releases are lovely. And they sound superb. But I can't afford all of them and I don't really need the majority of them on SACD. But I might consider this one.

@crocodile Well, actually, that's the only one to get as SACD. All the other are great on the 12-CD boxset. I just listened to the Newman CD (the 5th) and for now, that's the one where the tapes show their true age, but it remains listenable.

I do have Herrmann one on SACD and it's great.

And compared to the version on the boxset? So different or not?

BTW, all the film score RCA Red Seal original releases here: https://www.discogs.com/search/?sort=year%2Casc&type=release&title=Film+Score&label=RCA+Red+seal

The playing in the JW tracks is kind of bad at times. But one of these albums has the longest suite available of Newman's The Mark of Zorro, expertly played!

I have the RCA RED SEAL editions of these titles which are pure stereo with none of the Dolby surround nonsense. The recordings sound more vibrant and alive on these ones.

The 4 albums for which Herrmann himself re-recorded his film music, from 1969 to 1975, took several forms over the years.

We can found them on 3 CD, I purchased the most recent 1996 "individual" releases.

Bernard Herrmann / London Philharmonic Orchestra ‎– Bernard Herrmann Film Music - Music From The Great Hitchcock Movie Thrillers (1969)
