I got Shadows Of The Empire today in the mail from Movie Music. It was actually quite a surprise to see it. I wasn't expecting it until sometime next week along with Haunted Summer.

Ordered The Music Of The Lord Of The Rings by Doug Adams. Only $37 on Amazon, can't pass that up!

Sweet, what a bargain! And it > $25 so I can buddy it up with Star Trek: TNG: Best of Both Worlds to complete The Box That Is Ron Jones for Shipping Libre.

Purchased Heartbeeps off Amazon for retail. ;)

Someone must have been feeling generous.

Either that or devious... It's a new Amazon seller, so I could get hosed. But I think Amazon will protect me, as I used their credit card.

It wont' be "asap". Limited Editions are my first priority and the next couple of months I am gonna be tight on money and I really can't spend money for myself in December because of Christmas.

I wish I had the guts to develop a spending problem like yours, Koray. :D

My accomplishment for today: finally bought a used copy of the Raiders DCC release for $10 on Amazon. It's a long story why I don't already own this, but I've heard pretty much all of it, and I did buy the Concord release, and now I decided it was time to buy the DCC as well. I'm planning on redoing my edit of this score, probably favoring the DCC over the Concord. Not that there's much editing to do...but I'll compile the various tracks from the best available sources, probably split cues that segue into separate continuous tracks, and use all the original cue titles. I am SO over my previous practice of coming up with my own track titles even when the original cue titles are easily available. (Although I must admit, in cases like "The Map Room: Dawn", I do kinda wish the original title were something slightly more epic than "Discovering the Script"...)

I like the way the DCC opens with the short Raiders March with coda, and ends with the full Raiders March without coda

Koray,

I wish I had the money to have a spending problem like you do. Consider yourself lucky. Wait until you get older and you have to worry about rent, or mortgage payment or even having to take care of a child. Enjoy it now while you can.

Mmm. Yeah, there's a certain kind of flow to that setup.

Not that it'll last long before I put it all into chronological order...

I had cancelled my Ron Jones order right before the sets started shipping, since the price was way too much for mr, considering that I have limited interest in the music.

However, and I feel very bad about this after the fallout on FSM, I just purchased the box for $135 shipping included from a poster on FSM. That price made the set much more palatable for me. Sure I won't get my autograph, but no big deal.

Good for you.

I'm sure you will like the music once you give it a full listen. I think it's quality writing for TV. I'd love to see a Ron Jones compilation with his music for Family Guy. There's some fantastic stuff written for that show.

Can you find it for me on Amazon.co.uk? :(

It's probably not available individually, but it's part of this box set:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Richard-Strauss-Orchestral-Works/dp/B000BVXC7Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1288377156&sr=8-1

At 9 CDs, that's a good price, and the recordings are all great. In many cases, I prefer the Karajan versions from the 70s, but these are still excellent, and the set is certainly exhaustive. I've had it for years and I'm still only familiar with about half of what's on it. You might be able to find it slightly cheaper still (I did, when the Brilliant Classics release was new), but it's still a good price on Amazon - the original release was one of those EMI boxes at about 3 times the price, and before that, it was a series of three 3 CD sets, each of which cost more than the complete Brilliant Classics release.

Of course, personally, I say the Alpensinfonie alone is worth that price.

I originally got the set for the lovely Aus Italien, by the way, of which few recordings exist. I can't praise Kempe's Strauss enough - another highlight is his Ariadne auf Naxos (with the always amazing Gundula Janowitz in the title role); it's my favourite opera, and I can't imagine a better recording (although there certainly are other excellent ones, and I've heard good performances live myself).

By the way... nearly through my first listen of Gordon's Daybreakers, and it's leaving a great impression so far.

I'm definitely open to it, I didn't give the samples a chance really. I'm hoping I'll enjoy it!

Woo-hoo! Thanks to a wonderful trade with our board member STORM, I received the Varese 2 Disc Deluxe Edition of The Fury! I feel very lucky to have picked this up. Last week, it was Heartbeeps, and this week, the Fury... A major gap in the collection has been filled. Long live the Maestro.
