While I'm glad Bennett got his way, it would have been intriguing to hear a "proper" Rosenman Star Trek score - I think even a James Horner ST IV would have been quite different from II and III. Andy 3,214
Rosenman is so out of the box, and not as accessible as many of his contemporaries, but just like James Horner, when you hear Rosenman, you know it. He had a voice that I wish we could say we had today in the sea of sameness. The Ballad of the Whale is remarkable. It’s graceful yet awkward at the same time. That it even happened for a Star Trek movie is incredible. Imagine something like that played at the climax of some nu Trek project. JTWfan77 1,558
I'm quite partial to that brief transitional cue when the Klingon ambassador storms out of the council meeting and the segue to Vulcan takes place. He’s no longer in a Leicester car park so better than he was… as for the score, it’s pretty great for the most part but is given short shrift on disc with lots of dialogue. It could use a more comprehensive release. Marian Schedenig, Naïve Old Fart, JTWfan77 and 1 other 1 1
Popular Post Marian Schedenig 7,189
Recent acquisitions: Beauty and the Beast is the last of the Legacy Collections I'm still missing that's available on Amazon, but for some reason I'd forgotten to pick it up before. The Alsop Dvorak 9 was recommended by @Schilkeman in the classical music thread, and very good it is indeed. I ordered the Handsome Family album because I recently watched True Detective S1 and liked the title song and was hoping for more of a similar kind, but at least on a first listen not too much of the rest of the album seems all that interesting. Yes, I understand what you mean. Menken and R. Newman were song writers in the first place. Like Danny Elfman, Trent Raznor and Hans Zimmer as well. Different approach to composition.
