Excellent! I'm sure you will be well occupied with those.

Flesh+Blood arrived while I was out of town, and for Christmas, I received Bernard Herrmann - The Film Scores, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen with the L.A. Philharmonic. So far it's wonderful.

That's an awesome album. The Taxi Driver suite is brilliant.

Got Phillip Sheppard's Henry: Mind of a Tyrant from Amazon Digital. I loved his score for In the Shadow of the Moon and hadn't realised this one had been released too.

Not sure what proportion the synth/orchestra is, but it's good music.

I didn't buy these, but my Christmas haul was:

Star Trek V (LLL)

Frontiers

The Goldsmith last recordings box (Star Trek Nemesis; Timeline; Looney Tunes: Back In Action)

Legend (Silva)

(Y)

I wanted to get Timeline for a while but when it sold out I had no choice but to get the box set. Which was also fine by me because I still needed to get Nemesis.

Ordered from SAE:

- Tom and Jerry & Tex Avery Too! Vol. 1: The 1950s

- First Blood

- Casino Royale (by Burt Bacharach)

- John Goldfarb, Please Come Home!

- Rocketeer

Rocketeer... that's in my currently underway SAE order, too. Don't know when it'll arrive - I'll be happy IF it arrives. Unlike my new HD projector, which after claiming for one week that everything is all right and things just take longer because of Christmas, the post office finally admitted to having lost. I guess Amazon will be happy if it doesn't show up and they have to send a replacement. Me, I just want some answer from someone telling me how much longer I'll have to wait (it should've been here Wednesday before Christmas, I was going to watch lots of movies during my 2 week vacation).

You guys getting Rocketeer are in for a treat.

The Rocketeer is one of my favorite scores of all time, and a complete release is probably my new #1 holy grail after all the stuff we've gotten in the last 3 years

Oh, yeah. There's a lot of great material missing. I know part of one cue (when they're testing the rocket in the field) had a brief section dialed out, and it sounds like a section of the cue for the raid on the house was tracked with a section of "Rendezvous at Griffith Observatory," so there may be more unused music. I'd also love to get the recording of "In a Sentimental Mood" from the South Seas Club sequence--the other two selections that were included on the album are wonderful.

Wow, cool, now I really can't wait to receive the order but unfortunately I can only expect it to arrive sometime in the second half of January, since Casino Royale has to come out first (in mid-January) before SAE ships my order ...

Definitely. The Main Title - Takeoff and Jenny rank are two exemplary cues which rank amongst the very finest work by Horner in his career. Truly amazing music! bowdown AND, as an added bonus - no danger motif in this score! :D

Oh I gave up years ago trying to recognize who Horner was copying.

It's not so much a decision, but in most of Horner's scores, there's a moment that just makes me go "I know that!".

For example, I actually first heard a bit of that Rocketeer cue not during the concert, but from CD (supposedly from the OST) during the press conference preceding the concert. I didn't know what it was, but from the programme, it could only be the Horner score, and it sounded like Horner, plus it had that "I know that!" bit at the end. And I couldn't stop wrecking my brain for days - without success so far.

You could write a decent book about it? Anyone? Doug Adams?

It could make a nice thesis. Although unlike the girl in front of me at Shore's & Doug's signing lines, who had them sign her thesis on the LOTR scores, I doubt it's something you'd show to Horner himself. ;)

For the holidays I got Fireworks!: Baroque Brass Favorites (The Canadian Brass) as well as a second copy of The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing. I'll probably be selling the latter sometime soon.

Stuff I got for Christmas:

Anton Bruckner: Symphony #3, original version (Philharmoniker Hamburg, Young)

Anton Bruckner: Symphony #4, original version (Philharmoniker Hamburg, Young)

Anton Bruckner: Symphonies #4 & #7 (Münchner Philharmoniker, Thielemann)

Michael Nyman: Vertov Sounds

Regina Spektor: Live in London

Bought this week:

Radiohead: Pablo Honey (Deluxe Edition)

Now I'm just missing one Radiohead album.

I dunno yet.

It is rare. I had been looking for it. A link was posted a while back to an online store where it could be purchased, but it's since vanished. I found it here for much cheaper and the choice was clear.

Wow, I'd be most interested to read this thesis, but probably, it's not available anywhere, at least not in some electronic format ...

Actually, if the other institutions do it like Vienna's Technical University, there's a good chance that it might be available as a PDF somewhere. I have neither a name, a title though, and don't know for what university or conservatoire it was written.

Wow, 12 dollars for the Wakao CD! I bought it for 30 or so I think earlier this year, after waiting a couple of years and finally budging. No matter how long you wait, you're still going to buy something too soon...

Release date says: 2010/12/22

Is it a reissue?

Yeah, it says "priced-down reissue" in the title. I'd noticed it on that website after a search weeks back. When that link was posted in an older thread to the store for 30-something USD copies, I was excited to see it available, but I had to inevitably skip for that kind of asking price. CDJapan to the rescue. I'll update whenever it comes in.

Anyway, Kunzel mania at Newbury Comics, Providence. On a hunch. While scrolling through my wanted list, I realized that Kunzel CDs on Amazon were being sold through Newbury Comics. Figured they might have a presence in store. I grabbed American Jubilee (featuring Liberty Fanfare), Fantastic Journey, Mega Movies and Christmastime is Here (in the Holiday section up front, again, on a hunch and after intense searching) for dirt cheap. A few more tracks of Kunzel/Cincinnati Pops interpretations of JW music, as well as many other goodies.

Picked up Rachel Portman's Emma for $2.00 on a clearance shelf. I've always enjoyed the track on the Varèse 25th Anniversary album. Although this isn't a Varèse release... so what album did that track come from, anyway?

I just placed a big order from a few websites:

Keisuke Iwao plays the Music of John Williams

Brass on Broadway (The Canadian Brass)

Empire Brass on Broadway

Wish Upon a Star (The Boston Pops)

The Best of the Canadian Brass (Millenium Edition)

Yo-Yo Ma Plays the Music of John Williams

So Borders just cancelled my order of The Best of the Canadian Brass...kinda annoying since the only reason I bought Yo Yo Ma Plays the Music of JW was because I wanted the Canadian Brass one, and I decided I'd save on shipping, since I knew I would eventually order the latter (and also I heard Borders is in financial trouble, so I wanted to cash in my giftcard ASAP). I don't see why they can't just take down the listing for items on their site that they don't have... <_<

I don't buy from either place if I can help it. They're too expensive. I will check the brick and mortar stores every so often because they would carry a decent selection of film scores that can't be bought in other brick and mortars, but by now, I think I've nabbed them all and moved wholly to the specialty labels. Sometimes their discount racks offer goodies, and the "complete works by author for $10" are really good deals, except I have enough books I don't read.

The guys who ordered the Wakao CD, could you post pictures of the back and front covers if it arrives? More info on the reissue would be great.

Mass Effect 2: Lair Of The Shadow Broker

Mass Effect 2: Overlord

... by Christopher Lennertz (Thanks to Henry)

Haha, no problem. I just stumbled into all this previously unreleased Mass Effect 2 music. Who'd expect soundtrack albums to be released for every piece of DLC? It's nice.
