Swordfish392 3
Strings are by far my favorite section of the orchestra, espacily I love those expressive/old stuff with heavy use of vibrato and portamento. As allready discussed I found the strings in the finale piece of E.T. the best if not godlike, the slow part of the Raider's March also gets me everytime.Any other soundtracks/pieces you can recommend? Quintus 5,399
John Barry scores feature the sort of lush dreamy strings I like best. Stuff like Dances with Wolves and Out of Africa.
Charlie Brigden 7
Airwolf had some good String.Sorry.I agree, Out of Africa has the lushest theme in the history of the world. I could be in a Roland Emmerich movie yet not care because that theme is that great.

Ollie 1,059
Georges Delerue has some lovely string writing throughout his scores, his original score to Platoon especially.Of course Barry Williams, Rozsa and Goldsmith excelled at string writing. You can find wonderful string wtriting in most of their scores.

Maxxie 1
Silver Streak by Henry Mancini has some beautiful strings. In fact, that's what the score mostly consists of. What about Sleeping With The Enemy by Jerry Goldsmith?

filmmusic 1,828
I'm sure this isn't what you're after Swordfish, but I wanted to point out the wonderful and more daring string writing in the Arlington track from JFK soundtrack:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0MPLdRhDZg

Richard Penna 3,687
JNH does great string writing.I'm not keen on his use of very high strings during louder sequences. The 'b' part of the final thematic outburst in Jim Saves The Crew for example. Almost sounds like something's missing from the mix.

I would add also:. "Epilogue" from The Fury. "Angela's Prayer" from Angela's Ashes. "At the Forum" from Monsignor. "Meeting with Mao" from Nixon. "Time in Solitary" from Sleepers. "A Prayer for Peace" from MunichWilliams loves string adagios a lot...
