Is this a clue to the title or a reference to how popular they think it will be?

Their LE line is for films recently in theaters or direct to video so it's probably some recent movie about racing or something

Everyone always does, then they bitch about the new LE not being an expansion.

Knight Rider

Varese Sarabande Records announces the release of the music from the beloved original 1980s television series, Knight Rider. The show ran for four years on NBC and made stars out of David Hasselhoff and his car, KITT. The series featured music by the great Stu Phillips (Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, The Fall Guy, The Monkees, Quincy and The Amazing Spider-Man). The series theme song is one of the most memorable and much-loved themes from any television series.

In 2005, Film Score Monthly released a single disc limited edition CD collection of music from the series, which quickly sold out. Our new expanded 2-CD set includes music from the limited release on the first disc, while the second disc features completely unreleased score selected by Stu Phillips. Not odd when you consider for the past few years the FSM Knight Rider disc, when it's been even available (no copies at Amazon or Discogs right now, at all) has gone for $200 or more! Very smart of Varese to reissue that disc, and including a full extra disc of new Phillips music will probably even lure owners of the FSM version back to the well, if they liked it.

I lost track of which version FSM had released. I was thinking it was the original album for some reason.

If you like horror music, the NoES box is a steal.

Even as a Giacchinio fan, I've always found Giacchino's ST scores a bit underwhelming beyond the general themes, but half price is a good price.

Family Plot is a must-have!

Pretty impressive with 8 films, they never got a single composer to return once

Yep - the polar opposite of its companion franchise, Friday the 13th, which almost exclusively used Manfredini.

The first NoES is a bonafied film score classic, IMO, and parts 2-3 and New Nightmare are excellent horror scores.  The rest are pretty good, too, or at least have their moments!  And if you're a tiny, square person, the box also has a sweater to share with you!

Speaking of Manfredini, I stumbled upon his official Bandcamp page, and I couldn't tell you if he's obtained all of the clearances from the studios he's worked with, but it's a treasure trove of horror music.  https://harrymanfredini.bandcamp.com/

Do I get this right: Varese has no longer Encore releases in their CD Club batches, but instead they just casually release reissues now?! Since when did they open the throttle?!

The Encore series branding is no more. Varese has always "casually released reissues", going all the way back to the 80s. They've only had the "Encore Edition" series for a comparatively short amount of time, really. While that series was still going, they still did things like Down Twisted (which was a CD premiere of their LP release)...

Correct, and they've had one so far. Two batches in four months will be more concentrated than normal for Varese, but I hope they pull it off. Hopefully one in the next month or two tops, and then a December batch for Christmas?

After their shipping and mailing diabacle they probably needed to recover from that last batch. I HOPE AIRFORCE ONE and other titles that Robert Townson was pursuing are eventually released in these batches.

There’s not a ton of Golden Age Varese controls, but they do control some choice titles like Newman’s Song of Bernadette (I’ve heard the Twilight Time iso score has much improved sound over their old 90s release), Raksin’s Forever Amber (the Twilight Time has much more score than the old single disc Varese, but contains some film edits and misses some released music itself), or Rozsa’s Eye of the Needle (not Golden Age technically but sounds like it; superior RPO film recording totally unreleased). To say nothing of all those Herrmann titles released in their box set which could use single disc reissues like they gave to Journey to the Center of the Earth (albeit only 500 copies which sold out in a day).

I’ll also keep praying for Goldsmith’s The Other and the two Flint scores complete, though after LLL licensed both of Jerry’s Apes scores from both Fox and Varese, maybe there’s more hope from that quarter?

I have quite a few scores I'd like to see expanded from Varese.

Air Force One

X-Men: The Last Stand

The Sixth Sense (20th anniversary this year)

Brainstorm

The Matrix (20th anniversary as well)

The River
