It is what it is Oof. If I'd known this, I would have told you to keep the CD. I figured you'd have a moderately low shipping rate to even consider sending out discs for free. By the way, from the stuff on the list, the only two I was seriously interested in and had to choose from were Jack Reacher and Fiddler on the Roof. I picked the Kraemer because I figured Fiddler would be getting an expansion sooner or later. I didn't expect it to be *this* soon though - it's been announced while the Kraemer is still in the mail! Themes From The Phantom Menace And Other Film Hits On 02/10/2020 at 3:18 PM, mstrox said: I'm considering this one. Who recorded this? Neither the cover nor Varese's site have any information. Any of you have it and think it's worthwhile? It took 14 months, but I finally listened to this album this week. I liked it a lot! The album consists of 8 tracks recorded specifically for this album by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by Frederick Talgorn, and then also contains 10 tracks directly needle-dropped off their (Varese) OST albums. The 8 tracks recorded specifically for this are: THE PHANTOM MENACE SUITE (John Williams) Star Wars Main Title and the Arrival At Naboo - a re-creation of the Phantom Menace's first OST track, where Williams decided to only give us a few seconds of the actual opening cue segued into music from later parts of the movie. Well, it actually kinds works, regardless, especially from a purely musical standpoint. The Flag Parade - I really enjoyed this track a lot, because for some reason I've neglected this concert arrangement for 20+ years. I am sure I heard it at least once before, but had basically forgotten everything about it. It's really fun!! Anakin's Theme - Same arrangement as OST album, sounds good The Adventures of Jar Jar - I really enjoyed this too; I think it's possible I might have never heard it before. It combines music from the ost album's 4th and 6th tracks, with some original music. It's really cool! Duel of the Fates - I liked this performance! It's the same arrangement as the OST track, but the performance is noticeably different right off the bat and stays noticeable different throughout, which is great; It's always fun to have multiple interpretations of good music. It's not superior to the original performance, but it's well done! AND ALSO: The Sand Volcano from The Mummy (Jerry Goldsmith) - This was great! Smartly programmed right after Phantom too, it works well there. Two titans of the industry with big bangers in 1999. Hymm to the Fallen from Saving Private Ryan (John Williams) - As time has gone on, I've like this track less and less, and the actual score to the film more and mor (especially Revisiting Normandy), but I think hearing a different orchestra tackle this has reinvigorated my love for this cue a bit. This is a really nice performance. Suite from Shakespeare In Love (Stephen Warbeck) - I was completely unfamiliar with this score (never even seen the film), and after two listens it didn't make much of an impression. I'll revisit it if I ever see the film. Out of the OST tracks needle-dropped in, I already knew and loved: Main Title from Instinct (Danny Elfman) Main Title / Trinity / Infinity from The Matrix (Don Davis) I wasn't super familiar with, but was quite impressed by: Main Title from Wild Wild West (Elmer Bernstein) - what a cool, heroic main theme! Old Bagdad from The 13th Warrior (Jerry Goldsmith) - The one-two punch he did of The Mummy and 13th Warrior in the same year is pretty cool Home Safe from The Haunting (Jerry Goldsmith) - With this track and The 13th Warrior, I instantly knew both were Jerry scores when they came on before I even looked at the track list. The string work here is great - I gotta listen to this OST album That leaves 5 tracks that I was completely unfamiliar with, and didn't end up doing too much for me here Dr. Profundis from The Sixth Sense (James Newton Howard) Aftermath from Deep Blue Sea (Trevor Rabin) The Eye of the Storm from The Iron Giant (Michael Kamen) Main Title from Payback (Chris Boardman) Finale / Fed-Ex Delivers from Bowfinger (David Newman) Overall, a very well made album I liked a lot. The flow of the album is really nice, they smartly programmed what order to present all this in. A very nice summary of the state of Hollywood film music in 1998-1999! fommes, Bayesian and Yavar Moradi

fommes 153
Always been fond of Chris Boardman's Payback, it's a great theme (which pays homage to/is a variation on The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 of course) and the climactic cue is terrific too, hope that at some point there's a proper score release. I never quite understood why the score was replaced in the altered cut of the film.

Jay 37,045
Pee-wee would be great, especially if they can debut the actual film recordings (only currently available in the OOP Burton/Elfman box) and also include the re-recording LP they commissioned (which also had music from Back to School) I do think the orange color is intentional, but I don't have a clue what it could be for BrotherSound

Disco Stu 15,495
Big would be a re-issue since it was already a CD Club title 20 years ago. Anyway nice to hear news about Varèse I was pretty apathetic about The 13th Warrior until I found a clip of part of the final battle and heard what must be a film alternate that was rather nice, and would push me just over the edge to buying a DE. I'd be surprised if it's not on their 'todo' list given that it's Goldsmith. Otherwise, it would be nice to see I, Robot and Ice Age. Sphere would also be really good, but I suspect the WB-Goldenthal 'thing' could cause problems there.
