A quick listen of IRON MAN 2 - "Ivan Escapes" should also be enough to convince anyone that Debney is right for PREDATORS!

Oh that MV....

Speaking as someone who is producing the album with Mr Debney (and literally listening to the climax as I type) I can safely say fans of Mr Silvestri's original score will be delighted to know just how much is used in this new film. Mr Debney pays loving tribute to the original tunes and adds a few more of his own to round out this incredible score. Big Orchestra and choir!

In one word: AWESOME!

Shame it can't be a two disc set. Maybe next year. lol

OK, I will buy it next year than. Who know if a 2CD set will finally come? I didn't buy the original Star Trek 2009, and I plan to buy it June. When I plan to place my order, the 2CD set release.

I think MV was kidding about next year having a 2-CD release. He probably was just poking at the Star Trek 2-CD release.

Humor. It is a difficult concept.

Sounds cool. He has the Silvestri sound down well.

He's been ripping it off for long enough. At this point in time, though, I can't imagine ever embracing a Debney score. I've been too bored for too long with too much of his music.

I actually like the cue I heard in the video, and that doesn't include Silvestri's music. I'll probably get this one.

John Debney has confirmed, via his twitter feed, that the street date for the Predators OST is July 20th. He also stated that it will be 75 minutes long, and that he is having a "tuff" time paring the full score down to that length.

It must be really tough for some composers to whittle down 2 hours (or sometimes much more) of music into an overall representative score that contains the highlights and their own favourite pieces. And also something that's listenable and not just 75 minutes of action or 75 minutes of thematic development without payoff.

Of course, that doesn't excuse decisions like "Secrets Doors and Scorpions", but whatever.

It appears as though that while Predators OST will be available on LLL's site on July 20th, it won't be available in general retail until August 10th:

Is Mr. Debney working on his PREDATORS score down to the wire? Is the music written, with only recording to be completed, or is it all an ongoing contest? Curious.

Done and recorded. The cd was mastered yesterday. They are doing post on the film as I type.

Somehow I missed that MV posted this last night

We are wrapping up Predators right now and we have a 20 page booklet with notes by the producer, the director, John Debney and a 750 word essay by Daniel Schweiger on the History of music in Predator films and a brief analysis of John's score.

  • 2 weeks later...

False advertising. The title of the movie implies more than one creature.

Unless the 'predators' are the human cast ;)

Sounds pretty cool to me, too.

I'm also getting kind of a "Jaws" vibe in there a bit, too.

But then again, I'm weird.

Says Robert Rodriguez:

“And I like the double-meaning of the title—the predators, are you talking about the creatures or are you talking about this group of humans that are actually going in there against them. Are they going to kill each other off if there were no predators?”

Hmmm...I guess the track names really don't need spoiler tags. It's a Predator movie, people will die. And we know the lead can't die, because he's the lead and an important movie star.

Poor Stan and Hanzo. Whoever you are, we barely knew ye.

I just called Dark Delicacies, and was told if you order the CD from their website it will be signed by John Debney, and it will mail out the 12 or 13 of July. I ordered mine already. Yay. There is also an actor attending the signing as well who played one of the Predators. I am not sure if he is signing the CDs as well, but in the comments section of my order I requested only Mr. Debney sign the cd. Additionally, I asked for my order to be cancelled if Mr. Debney cancels the signing.

Academy Award-nominated John Debney is one of the most prolific and successful composers in Hollywood. His unique ability to create memorable music across a variety of genres, along with his reputation for being remarkably collaborative, have made him the first choice of top level producers and directors.

Debney quickly established himself as a formidable film composer across a wide range of genres, working repeatedly with several noted directors, including Garry Marshall on The Princess Diaries, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement and Raising Helen; Robert Rodriguez on Sin City, Spy Kids, Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams and The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D; Jon Favreau on Elf and Zathura; and Tom Shadyac on Liar Liar, Dragonfly and Bruce Almighty.

Although Debney had built an industry reputation as a talented film composer, it was in 2004 that the rest of the world discovered him. Blending symphonic orchestra, a wide range of world instruments and the beauty of the human voice, Debney’s landmark score for The Passion of the Christ became a world-wide success. The score earned him an Academy Award nomination, a Gold record and a Dove award.

John Debney’s recent projects include scoring Hanna Montana: The Movie, Valentine’s Day (reuniting with director Garry Marshall) and The Stoning of Soraya M. Debney recently reunited for a third time with director Jon Favreau by scoring the highly anticipated Marvel action film Iron Man 2.

Robert Rodriguez presents Predators, a bold new chapter in the Predator universe, shot under the creative auspices of Robert Rodriguez, stars Adrien Brody as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they’ve been brought together on an alien planet…as prey. With the notable exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers—mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members—human ‘predators’ that are now being systematically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators. Predators also stars Laurence Fishburne, Danny Trejo and Topher Grace, directed by Nimrod Antal and is produced by Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Desperado, Planet Terror).

Caught the movie last night. Lots of fun, really enjoyed it. Music was amazing. Captured Silvestri brilliantly. Can't wait to get the score this week!

Yeah, the electric guitar wasn't needed but considering the way the Predator theme is, it was nice to have a little variation at the end. Could I have done without it? Probably, but it added a little something to the fight and I thought it worked in the film (don't know if the same will be when I listen to it on my own).

I read somewhere that they originally asked Silvestri, but he couldn't do it due to a clash with The A-Team, so Rodriguez went to his usual collaborator - Debney.
