Whoah! Good thing I snatched that CD last autumn. Perhaps not classic JW but an interesting stepping stone along the path of his career. One of his more cohesive comedic scores from the era.

Bah! I waited too long and now John Goldfarb is sold out! No longer even appears on the Screen Archives or Intrada site, and moviemusic.com just says unavailable.

Does anybody know where else I can find a copy?

And then suffer through it! :P

Well to understand a great mystery, we must study all it's aspects, not just the narrow view of 1970's and 80's. Yes, even a Shirley MacLaine, Richard Crenna and Peter Ustinov comedy score from the 1960's.

Jay why do you keep calling it Johnny Goldfarb?

The score is from the swinging 60's. All Johns were called Johnny back then. Even Williams. ;)

This is my absolute favorite FSM release, I can't recommend it enough. In addition to JW's original score, it also includes some really cool instrumental arrangements of Broadway tunes.

Yeah, you should probably get it if you don't have it. I mean, I think you should get everything you think you might ever consider owning since it'll probably go OOP and become super expensive. But I realize that not everyone can afford to buy everything.

However, Checkmate is a top Johnny CD, I think.

I grabbed Checkmate and ... Cat Dancing. Lukas updated yesterday that Checkmate has less than 100 left:

http://www.filmscore...-6-2003/profile

There was also this tidbit about Schifrin's THX 1138 that made me smile:

Vol. 6, No. 4: THX 1138 (Schifrin): I lost track of how many we made of these due to some lost booklets we had to reprint. I think we made 4000 of which we are down to the last 500-600. It was a real thrill to work on this George Lucas soundtrack, especially given how proprietary Lucas is over his universe. So while all of you complain about the endless changes to the Star Wars films, I have actually done something to strike back against the Empire, hee hee hee! (Don’t kill me. Only joking.) The music was not placed in the film exactly as Schifrin intended so it took some creative interpretation to make an album out of the recorded cues. I asked Warner Bros. for a license assuming if it was a problem, they would say no—they said yes and I am very proud of our release. It’s a terrific and evocative yet intimate Lalo Schifrin score from what he amusingly calls his “weird” period. (A few years after the CD was released, I got a call from Lucas’s personal secretary at Lucasfilm and apparently George had obtained a copy and wanted additional copies to give to some of his old USC filmmaker friends, at the time they were doing the special edition DVD. I held my breath and asked, “Did he like it?” although it might have come out, “Am I in trouble?” And the answer was no, apparently George liked it just fine and what can I say except I am still breathing?)

In searching for a Limited Edition title to order along with Midway, it seems The Ghostbreaker is down to 252 copies.

How is this score? Given that it was only for a TV pilot, I was going to order NWMWYD! Vol. II, but I'd hate to miss out if it's really worth owning.

You might want to grab the Jazz Beginnings CD if you're interested in early Williams. I fear the worst whenever something vanishes from Amazon without a note about more being on the way.

Because their license expired and they can print no more, but can sell off the remaining they already had printed.

I think all those titles are necessary to own. Personally, I haven't listened much to Goodbye, Mr. Chips, but I recognize its importance for JW's career and that set is extremely nice. I mean, so nice that you wish every JW score got the same treatment.
