TownerFan 4,983
I had to ask my mother about the first film I saw in theater, because I have very distant memories about that. It was Disney's The Fox and the Hound. I think I was 3 or 4 years old. The only thing I remember with some distinction is the movie poster with the angry bear that was outside the theater. Then I remember more clearly about seeing E.T., Return of the Jedi, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Superman III. You can see there was a pattern already there
Jay 37,042
First movie seeing anywhere? Star Wars, as far as I can rememberFirst movie I can remember seeing in the theater is either Bambi or Pinnochio (when Disney used to re-release them to theaters every so often). Hmmm, or maybe Flight of The Navigator or Transformers: The Movie. Whatever came out earliest out of those 4 choices I guess

Naïve Old Fart 9,442
This thread is evidence of that!I'd say, this thread is evidence that people tend to stick with the movies they saw when they were 3 years old. Meister full of Data has become a Disney fanaticQuint still worships the water Jaws has swam in.King Mark always will be a Star Wars nerd. And so on ......and what floats your boat, these days, Alex? Why should loyalties shift, just because age advances? The first film that I saw(one of the three most important films that I have ever seen-more on that, later) was "The Jungle Book", in 1967 (showing my age, here!). I remember being absoultely transfixed by this experience. I literally could not avert my eyes from the screen, even if I had wanted to. This is the film that introduced me to the magic (and it IS magic) of cinema. The other two important films on my list are "The Towering Inferno" (it introduced me to the music of a certain J.Williams, esq.), and "CE3K" (my favourite film, EVER). Quintus 5,399
The first film Alex saw, when he was three years old, was Belle de Jour. Also, I don't think Alex was having a dig, Richard.

A24 4,306
Why should loyalties shift, just because age advances? What's wrong with 'standing still'? Nothing, I guess, but I like it when people are 'growing'. Belle De Jour? I don't watch porn!
Quintus 5,399
Nostalgia keeps me rooted in the past, indeed I'm content to stand still and worship Jaws forever. Besides, everyone knows they don't make 'em like they used to.

Andy 4,000
Everyone should worship JAWS forever.Jaws is my #3 fav, after Star Wars and Raiders. Oddly, I am very seasonal in my desire to watch it. I live in Upstate New York, so once it gets summer-like weather (like now), I get the strong compulsion to pop it in and enjoy. I'll get totally in the Jaws mood, watch all the sequels, listen to all the scores, and scan the web for odd Jaws collectibles or oddities. But I don't do that in the winter. JoeinAR 1,949
It's ET, Jaws and Superman for me as far as top 3. Each stick as far as altering my perception of movies. The same with Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and Avatar.Star Wars for all the reasons we discussed, JP for bringing to life what I always wanted to see alive, and Avatar for showing that there is still a wow factor out there. Alan 689
The first film I remember being taken to see at the cinema was Superman 4.I was about 4 years old and I didn't make it through the whole film. The loud main title music scared me and my big brother had to take me out of the cinema crying. Ironic really. After that, I don't actually remember going to the cinema until Back To The Future 3 came out.
Jeff 10
I just happened upon this thread and wanted to weigh in. The first films I remember seeing in the theater were The Land Before Time, The Little Mermaid, and Bambi. I didn't remember the order in which I saw these, so I had to look it up. Apparently, I saw the July 1988 re-release of Bambi first. I was five years old. The Land Before Time was released in November 1988, so that was my first new release in a theater. The Little Mermaid was released in November 1989.
Taikomochi 1,126
Jurassic Park. I was probably about 1 when it came out, but I just remember being a toddler and watching the VHS every day and not knowing about other movies.
