pixie_twinkle 44
Edward Williams' beautiful score to the groundbreaking 1979 TV series "Life on Earth" was finally unearthed and released on CD on the Trunk CD label. I can strongly recommend it. They really don't write 'em like this anymore. Gorgeous music. Anyway, it sparked my interest in finding the scores to the other Attenborough shows, "The Living Planet" (a rather odd synth score), and George Fenton's soundtrack to "Trials of Life". I've found little info about these releases beyond the fact that there was a vinyl release of The Living Planet back in the 80s, and there seems to have been an obscure CD release of Trials of Life which I have no info about beyond this web page: http://www.musicadefilm.com/soundtracks.cgi?id=2536&lang=esAnyone know if and where I can pick up these scores?EDIT: I followed the Amazon link on that web page and see that the Trials of Life CD is available to anyone who wants to spend a hundred bucks. Bloody hell!
Omen II 1,088
I cannot help you PT I'm afraid, but you have certainly piqued my interest with your mention of a Life On Earth CD; I will certainly check it out as I did not know the music had been released. Edward Williams is almost never mentioned on any film music sites, but I recall reading how well respected he was by his peers (I think it was Howard Blake or someone who claimed to have learned a lot from Ed Williams). The opening title of LOE is a classic and I remember avidly watching re-runs of that and The Living Planet when I was a nipper, as well as reading the BBC books that accompanied the series. I have Lalo Schifrin's The Hellstrom Chronicle, a very different animal but fascinating nonetheless if you like your music challenging!
pixie_twinkle 44
Omen II, here's the website for Trunk, the company that finally got the music for Life On Earthout on CD. Read the story of how the music was "discovered". It's an amazing story.http://trunkrecords.com/turntable/life_on_earth.shtmlHere's the cheapest place I've found it, if you live in the US:http://music.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?r=1&EAN=666017214924&cm_mmc=Google%20Product%20Search-_-Q000000630-_-Life%20on%20Earth%20Music%20from%20the%201979%20BBC%20TV%20Series-_-666017214924&ourl=Life%2Don%2DEarth%2DMusic%2Dfrom%2Dthe%2D1979%2DBBC%2DTV%2DSeries%2FEdward%2DWilliams
Omen II 1,088
Thanks, Pixie! I'll probably get it from Amazon UK where it costs eleven of your Earth pounds (coz I is like in London, innit, you get me?).It makes you wonder what other composer promos may be floating around in charity shops... Melange 446
Years back on this forum, Justin (where is he now?) asked me to buy him the CD of George Fenton's score to The Blue Planet, because it wasn't available in the U.S at the time.I bought it and sent it on. The rather was very memorable and recognizable for that series.
Marian Schedenig 5,520
The Blue Planet/Deep Blue is, from what I've heard, Fenton's very best work. Great stuff.

What a gorgeous song! Who knew Attenborough could sing?
Marian Schedenig 5,520
How did this Sagan auto-tune singing mania start anyway? There seem to be dozens of songs with him on YouTube...I prefer this (somewhat unrelated) though:
