Desplat's music for the game Honor Of Kings looks like it may have been released, but only in certain Asian territories.

Does anyone know how to buy it?

Rambling Records is finally releasing soon the score album for Eiffel, french movie that came out in 2021.

I was so disappointed to see there was no way to listen to the music when I watched the movie last year... but fortunately a japanese label is handling the release (they did the same for Coupez! last summer, another french movie).

Snippet from the Eiffel score I extracted from the film audio:

Wow, this sounds very exciting. From a first listen, it reminds me a little of Hans Zimmer's Sherlock Holmes scores.

How's that score?

It’s definitely bad, but I guess that Desplat wanted to compose a parody : you have atrociously bad action music (« Attaque Hosoda ») and boring themes (« Thème de Romy »). Except for the funny « 70s theme », you can definitely skip it…

That's the music that was put over the end titles, and is definitely not entirely representative of the score, it has better material than that.

Good on Rambling Records - Coupez ! was a remake of a Japanese movie (confusingly named the same thing in Japanese), so there's a bit of a connection there, but Eiffel seems to be entirely French, so this is a bit of a surprise (though welcome). I guess the Japanese do like Paris.

I'm probably the only person who likes this composer switch. As I alluded to earlier, I felt this project needed an electronic score composed by electronic specialists, and given the new names, it seems likely that is indeed a possible direction for this.

Why does Desplat keep getting bounced from big projects at the last fucking minute??

Because Hollywood filmmakers are mostly idiots who keep changing their minds at the last minute.

In this movie's case they probably only realized that they needed a pop score after they hired Desplat and he provided something more traditional.

If that's the case then I'm glad he dropped out of Black Widow and stayed true to his style instead of trying to write a RC-style action thriller score (like Doyle with the 2014 Jack Ryan movie).

Desplat isn't above doing this. His score for Deathly Hallows Part II is very much Desplat meets RC.

Is there any indication of whether Desplat's score was already recorded (or even written)? Filming wrapped in July last year (before the reshoots last month). Maybe we'll get a bootleg.

I think this has nothing to do with Desplat, as Gerwig has previously stated that she’s a big fan of Desplat’s music and style and he scored one of her previous films.

As they are doing reshoots still and if the test screening didn’t go well then it’s not surprising that Desplat got fired. It’s the oldest story in film scoring, if the movie isn’t working close to the release date then they replace the composer and hope that it will make the movie better. So I don’t think this has anything to do with Desplat but more about test screenings (if they’re reshooting this late).

I’m very disappointed about the news. I have no I retest in the movie but was really looking forward to a new Desplat score…

Perhaps Desplat can reuse the material in his future Star Wars score.

I’m kind of relieved Alexandre Desplat isn’t writing the score to a Barbie movie.

If anyone's interested in hearing a small compilation of the best the score has to offer, I did a small suite of my favorite parts of the score, with all the different sections of the main theme. It's a classic Desplat-Anderson collaboration, and while it tends to get a bit repetitive (similar to what happened with Moonrise Kingdom), it's a nice addition to their works together, and it has some really beautiful parts. Even so, Grand Budapest Hotel remains my favorite score of their collaborations!

Yeah, I guess it's Desplat's tendency when working with Wes Anderson, as French Dispatch and Moonrise Kingdom as well as parts of the other scores are similar in that aspect. It usually fits the film's visuals like a glove, but on a listening experience, it can be a bit repetitive.

I wish Desplat could go back to doing a piece as exciting and intense as this one for a Wes Anderson film!

I love this cue and the theme! This is peak Wes Anderson Desplat. The whole score is good.

I was just referring to that single track, which to me is quite boring. The album still doesn't seem to be available on Spotify.

Listening to Greta Gerwig on Edith Bowman’s podcast. No mention of Desplat as far as I can hear. The Mark Ronson stuff (I think) that they play in the interview actually doesn’t sound too bad. It sounds like something Desplat could have written easily. It seems they wanted more connection between the songs in the movie and the score.

I also listened to it this morning.

The news about the overlap between songs and score was nice and I hope they release score as well.

It was just the songs that were played That one instrumental piece was from the end of Heaven Can Wait by Dave Grusin

hopefully our next Desplat release

also I feel pretty confident that he recorded his score for Barbie

The timeline is strange, because Desplat was announced in September last year, but in every interview I have heard with Greta Gerwig she suggests that Mark Ronson was involved during the production of the film at least a year before the film came out. Maybe they just decided they wanted more of link between the "score" and the original music.
