Sherlock (BBC)

They will likely air in the UK in Oct/Nov, and then air on PBS in the US in March/April (as PBS will be running Downton Abbey season 4 from Jan-early Mar)

Well, sometimes they do trim shows (I know they've trimed Life on Mars episodes), but for stuff like Sherlock and Downton, which pull in their biggest viewing numbers, they don't touch.

Filming on Sherlock S3E2 is coming to a close, and yesterday Director of Photography Steve Lawes bade farewell to the production early.
To mark the occasion of his wrap, he tweeted the following image of himself, Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Arwel Jones, that was taken earlier in the day.

The first San Diego Comic Con panel for Sherlock has just concluded, and here are the most important pieces of news from the panel!

Sue Vertue confirmed Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are optioned for a fourth series of Sherlock!

Lucky attendees were the first in the world to see footage from Series 3, with a rough cut clip from S3E2: The Sign of Three. As the footage was unfinished, it will not be released online.

The USA was confirmed to see Sherlock on screens in early 2014 on PBS Masterpiece. The UK premiere remains unknown and unannounced. Steven Moffat commented on the tone of Series 3 - "It's slightly more, human, slightly more real."

And lastly, though Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch weren't in attendance at the panel, they did send in a taped video message, where Benedict contrived to reveal the secret of Sherlock's survival - and don't worry, it's SPOILER FREE and very funny!

Very funny video! I'd love to see an unbleeped version to hear what he was really saying (which likely has nothing to do with the real solution anyway)

I can't imagine the third season of Sherlock will be drastically different at all from the first 2. They've been very consistent in quality through all 6 aired episodes imo.

It doesn't really matter too much which of the writers gets credited with which script, they all come up with the story-lines and major plot points together

Well yes, that is clearly the weakest entry of them all, but overall the show's quality is higher than most other things on television, and they really found their groove in season 2 making each episode unique and different from each other, while also being consistent overall in general tone and atmosphere and acting. In fact, it's largely the terrific acting of Freeman and Cumberbatch that make the show great and feel consistent, i think. I am glad we will get to see them explore different cases for years to come.

With Moriarty dead, the new main villain for Season 3 is:

Introducing Lars Mikkelsen as Charles Augustus Magnussen!

Lars Mikkelsen is a Danish actor, famous for roles in the hit international exports The Killing, Borgen and Those Who Kill, and is the elder brother of Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, NBC's Hannibal).

Arnold mentioned on his FB that they are recording the score for Sherlock now!

First day of string recording for the new season of Sherlock at Air Studios, with undoubtably the finest string players in the world. Have done a couple of away matches recently, and was shocked at how good everyone was this morning.

Keeping music (a bit) live, one telly show at a time ...

First teaser for season 3!

Note: Features NO footage from Season 3....but it does feature a very interesting mustache on Mr. Watson!

The teaser, featuring Una Stubbs, Rupert Graves, Mark Gatiss, Louise Brealey, Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch runs for 25 seconds but features no actual footage from the third series itself.
It is instead an original creation by director Jason Thomson of Red Bee Media, who has created numerous original promotional trailers for the BBC. That said, it does hint at the major dramatic crux of the start of the third series - the inevitable reunion of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, after Sherlock faked his death at the conclusion of The Reichenbach Fall.

If none of the footage is from Season 3, then where did they get the clip of Freeman with the lip catepillar? Watson with mustache might be a way of visually showing a passage of time.

Well it was obviously shot on the set of the new episodes, just by a different director for different reasons

Interview with the director of 3x01

Turns out they purposely filmed fake scenes to help prevent spoilers
