Comments on Scores

Recommended Posts

Whenever I browse SAE's clearance sale to find some stuff I can pair with my next order of the latest limited releases, I come up with (much too lengthy) lists of scores I find interesting, but don't know at all. If you know any of the following scores, some infos that may help me decide would be appreciated:

Fenton: The Long Walk Home

Goldsmith: Contract on Cherry Street

Goldsmith: Love Field

Goldsmith: Malice

Goldsmith: Matinee

Holdridge: Call of the Wild

Mancini: Adventures of the Great Mouse Detective

Poledouris: Amanda

Poledouris: Amerika: 1987

Poledouris: Flyers/Fire on the Mountain

Holdridge: Long Way Home (the description lists 6 (!) narrators... what does that mean?)

Holdridge: The Tuskegee Airmen

I was hoping to be of some help, but unfortunately I only own Malice out of all of them, and I'm really not too familiar with it.

Those two are the only ones from my list I've heard in their films, but I barely recall either. I'm pretty sure I liked the Mancini, and that the Goldsmith was rather meh.

Anyone else know any of the others?

Goldsmith: Contract on Cherry Street

Goldsmith: Love Field

Goldsmith: Malice

Goldsmith: Matinee

Mancini: Adventures of the Great Mouse Detective

Here we go

CHERRY STREET great, propulsive, trombones roaming around like only Goldsmith could have them; a bit like CAPRICORN ONE.

LOVE FIELD: get the end title from iTunes or amazon; it's really slight mid-90's Jerry, rather modest, sing-along theme

MALICE: dito, really lame thriller stuff, enchanting POLTERGEIST-like main theme by wordless chorus (try youtube)

MATINEE: cute theme, the nostalgic stuff is as good as Goldsmith got in that department, rest is nice but not essential, long end title covers everything

MOUSE DETECTIVE: nice and bouncy main theme, the underscore is of less interest

Thanks, guys. That helps.

The potentially lesser Goldsmiths are $5 each, so I'll pick those up sooner or later, too.

Has anybody heard Amanda? A Poledouris score with a running horse on the cover is intriguing. And I'm always interested in more Holdridge.

I went with these for now:

The Long Walk Home

Contract on Cherry Street

Matinee

Adventures of the Great Mouse Detective

Amanda

Amerika: 1987

Flyers/Fire on the Mountain

The rest might come later. Thanks for the input, everyone.
