Manhattan, 1979

A surprisingly dynamic recording of Rhapsody in Blue. Every version I've heard of this piece has signifcant differences to one another because of how it allows flexibility in each performance to improvise certain sections. I found this to be true from hearing it in concert twice at the Sydney Opera House where the piano performers deviated quite a bit from the script each time.

This one has been in my frequent rotation of late.  I started rewatching the miniseries too.  Amazing show and score.

Well there are a few grains of wheat among a lot of chaff.

One of Newman's finest to be sure. Has all the elements that make him great.

The score is great, apart from action music.

Karol

Come to think of it I largely agree.

The score is great. The show is a TV milestone!

Best line: "What kind of homosexual are you? That's not purple, that's mauve".

I don't remember this line from Angels, but I sure do remember it from Beetlejuice!  When Otho is planning the redesign of the house.

Valerian - Alexandre Desplat

On first listen, I thought it was promising.  Four plays later, I think it's the best or second best of the year, and probably my second or third favorite from Desplat overall.  Maybe even higher.

Come, come, Inky. Young minds, fresh ideas; be tolerant :nono:

Don't you wave your finger at me! I wasn't being serious and Karol knows it! :stick:

But as I said before after seeing the film I have no interest to hear this kind of film score on its own. It just doesn't hold musical interest for me. I have no doubt that many will like it though.

Hmmm I'll have to take a listen to that masterpiece today too. It has been too long. :)

Geez, Inky, I remember KARAOKE, and COLD LAZARUS on the telly! They were the last things written by Dennis Potter, weren't they? It'd be nice to hear those, again.

Ps, THE FIRST GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY, is fantastic.

Yup. And you can get the Gunning scores on a single CD for relatively cheap on Amazon UK. Cold Lazarus is a pretty good glimpse of what Gunning can do with a larger orchestra in a sci-fi setting with some beautiful melodies and the Karaoke portion features some lovely noirish atmospheric scoring sprinkled with a couple of source songs.

The Intrada release of the Great Train Robbery is ace. I really like the light comedic touch of this particular Goldsmith score.

Stephen Barton - Titanfall 2

Listened to this one on recommendation from @Quintus and didn't like it, I found it boring.  Not sure what I'm missing here.

I'll look into that. Thanks.

Ps, sorry for wagging my finger at you, earlier.

(edit) just looked it up, on Amazon: £11:99. Not bad.

And for just one pence used on the marketplace

It was epic during my playthrough of the game, reminded me a lot of Goldenthal. Is there a soundtrack release?

I love a big spacey sound like this.
