The trick is not to turn the volume down. ;)

But that's the whole point, dynamic range is more realistic and accurate. When they pump everything up to the same level, it just sounds wimpy.

My trick to avoiding insane loudness spikes is to set the volume to the highest you can tolerate. And when it drops, don't touch it. Just let it do its thing.

Not necessarily. Modern releases tend to be over-compressed, no doubt. But you *can* get to excessive with dynamic range, and that doesn't sound realistic either.

Black Panther by Ludwig...something or other..I don't feel like looking up his last name

Was startled to discover grandpa listening to this and enjoying it. This is actually pretty cool! WAY more interesting than anything I've ever heard in any other Marvel score. I've read a lot that the album's too long, but no big deal, if I decide to dive further into this work, I wouldn't mind doing some editing.

Harry and the Hendersons by Bruce Broughton

LOVE that opening/closing Mozart-ish theme!

Honey I Shrunk the Kids by James Horner

The theme isn't as creative/original as Broughton's, but it's a blast all the same! Best played with Tummy Trouble preceding it as an opening overture. ;)

Samsara - Michael Stearns

Baraka - Michael Stearns

Chronos - Michael Stearns

I am a pretty big fan of Stearns, listening to all three of his major scores in order to decide how I would rank them. Probably 1. Samsara 2. Chronos 3. Baraka

Black Panther by Ludwig Gorannsson: I don't know how many times I have listened to it but each time I discover something new. The score is full of themes and little motifs that are interwoven with each other in such amazing waysthat it simply blows my mind. Maybe it's true that the album is a bit too long, but I think that just like one or two cues would be deleted if I did some kind of edit, because I love it so much. I think this is the best Marvel score to date and is one of my favorites of the genre.

I'm sure. Its also something that John Williams has been doing, for the last 50 years.

Again, Inky, it's one of his very best, from an underrated film.

Leave it aaaht, guv'nor!

The film is a huge lump of Cheddar, but the score is great. Judy Davis looks oddly sexy, with a machine gun.

Shame that Eon didn't go with Collins, as 007.

What do you guys think about the two film music albums that Roy Budd recorded with the TSO, which includes music by JW? Fantasy Movie Themes and Space Movie Themes.

I just know this compilation (which is a kind of "best-of" I think), but rarely listen to it.

I have them both. They're interesting, but could definitely have been better rehearsed. I originally got them because Fantasy Movie Themes contains the longest suite ever recorded of Newman's The Mark of Zorro.

Great cover art. Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher likenesses are completely off, but everything else is on point.

That's quite fitting since it's a rip-off of the original poster.

John Williams (Original songs by D. and A. Previn) - Valley of the Dolls (2017 digital release)

I love it, it's just perfectly old-fashionned (like me)!

Hubris by John Powell: After a couple of listens I have to say I really like it.

Pode by Austin Wintory: Mostly a rather soothing and gentle atmospheric piece of work. Very relaxing.

John Williams - Fitzwilly (OST from the 2013 archival expanded set)

Fun fact (that is not funny), I just realized that the "Original album" track order on the CD is not the same as the LP. On the CD, they tried a chronological order. But on the LP, it's of course in fuckall-logical order, and I prefer it!

Make me rainbows.....

I just hope/wish he does get the chance to unleash a bit more orchestral fury or for a strong thematic score. This stuff is very good, musically, but badly lacks Wow-factor.
