Danny Elfman - Josstice League

I don't know why this is the most hated score of all time. It's a great orchestral/choir extravaganza that is more entertaining to hear than Zimmer's previous depressing DCEU efforts and Elfman's own Age of Ultron;

The score isn't bad per se. There is a lot of solid stuff in there. What drags it down is that Elfman seems to want to please everyone all at the same time and ended up pleasing almost no one.

It is not better than his Ultron material though. Not a chance.

Although some "Marvel" movies had great composers (Elfman, Silvestri, etc.), I TRY to ignore them.

Elfman's Spider-Man is I think the only "Marvel" score I bought... but it was the "first" serie, or batch, anyway... I always liked Spider-Man, because his butt is a great part of the costume.

But we talked about music.  Elfman, I make exception for Elfman... But Justice League, I don't know that, and I'm not interested.

I've listened to Ultron several times (and even did a Restored Isolated Score thread for the movie) and I can't bring myself to like both Tyler's and Elfman's scores. They have their moments, but overall I think both composers were relatively uninspired.

But I like Elfman's Avengers United cue.

Ever After - George Fenton

It works equally well in the film and outside as a listening experience. The main theme for Danielle is exquisitely beautiful, especially in its sad form in "The Glass Slipper" and cleverly mingling with Countess Rodmilla's in "Sweet Revenge."

A very underrated Fenton score. The soundtrack is programmed for an enjoyable listening experience, not chronological. That's OK in my book.

The Kid Detective is a breezy neo-noir throwback score from last year, classily composed by Canadian up-and-comer Jay McCarrol. Rings similar to the satisfaction of Hart's The Old Man and the Gun, at least as far as they're both tasteful modern touch-ups of familiar mediums, and make for rather easy listening. The second track, Willowbrook Then, is the standout keeper, but clocking in at a brisk 29 minutes, the whole album's worth a shot.

The Man Standing Next, South Korea's submission for Best International Feature this year, is a rather flat political thriller about KCIA operations under President Park in the 1970s. Cho Young-Wuk's score lacks the substance to justify it's length on album- the final track is all you need to take away here.

One of my Fenton favourites, and with one of the best examples of his faux-renaissance (?) writing.

The album is missing a few lovely moments from the finale, as far as I remember. I suppose an expansion wouldn't be essential, but I'd buy it.

I like the main titles. I seldom listen past them. Not for at least five years.

Not that there's anything wrong with the main titles, but they're among the least interesting parts of the score.

Michael Giacchino - Jojo Rabbit (FYC)

It took me a while, but I've grown to really like this score a lot!

Wojciech Kilar - Dracula (LLL)

I have no idea how/why I never knew this score until now, but I'm glad I finally checked it out.  Pretty cool stuff!

John Williams - Hook

One of those scores I never get tired of listening to

Michael Giacchino - Spider-man Far From Home

Hadn't listened to this in a while.  It's still great!

John Williams - A.I. Artificial Intelligence (originally intended OST album)

Better than the final OST released but still just doesn't work; Too much missing from the first act of the film and the non-chronological presentation doesn't' work at all for this particular score

Oh? What playlist would that be?

James Newton Howard - King Kong.

I'm not sure if I saw or not this version of King Kong, but the music is great.

That's definitely music written for a big beast!

James Newton Howard - Hidalgo

It sounds like a western. Listening to it for the first time...

The cue he released on the final OST album as "Abandoned In the Woods", available on disc 3 of the LLL set under the same name

When JW wrote that cue, he called it "Opening End Credits"

What, the same cue twice? You listed that as

  1. 105 OST 05 Abandoned In The Woods / The Journey To Rouge City [3M7 Abandoned In The Woods + 5M5 The Journey to Rogue City] (5:33)

or was that one of the film cues? Anyway, what a strange choice for this movie's end credits.

There are no mistakes.  3M7 Abandoned in the Woods is a different cue than Opening End Credits

The OST track called "Abandoned in the Woods" (now disc 3 track 13 of the LLL set) is

  • Opening End Credits

The OST track called "Rouge City" is

  • 0:00-2:00 = [3M7] Abandoned in the Woods (edited)
  • 2:00-end = [5M5] The Journey To Rouge City (edited)

The main program track "Abandoned in the Woods (Extended Version)" is

  • 0:00-2:50 [3M7] Abandoned In The Woods
  • 2:50-3:24 [3M7 New] Abandoned In The Woods
  • 3:24-end [3M7] Abandoned In The Woods

The bonus program track "Abandoned in the Woods (Alternate)" is

  • 0:00-2:50 [3M7 New] Abandoned In The Woods
  • 2:50-3:20 [3M7] Abandoned In The Woods
  • 3:20-end [3M7 New] Abandoned In The Woods

Yea you did, you said I put the same cue twice - I didn't.  "Opening End Credit" and "3M7 Abandoned In The Woods" are not the same cue.

And yea, it would have been a strange idea indeed to open the film's end credits with that - I'm glad Spielberg changed it!

King Kong ('33) - damn fun

Land Before Time - didn't grab me

A.I. Artificial Intelligence LLL - absolute perfection.

I think a proper album for this score needs more music from the first act in the household, and yea definitely more Blue Fairy Theme!

I can't understand the decisions he made when programming this one...

You said it, it was a decision.

An OST is the ultimate way for a composer to get over the Director's vision and last wishes.

An OST was never a way to properly sum the movie story. It's a way for the composer to show "his best", only musically speaking.

Right, but I don't know why he focused so much on the end and middle of the score and neglected so much of the beginning of the score, or why he avoided almost every cue that has the Blue Fairy theme in it.
