Potterdom Film/Score Series Thread

The reactions were very positive. I read all the spoilers and changes -- and so far, I like what I hear about Part 2.

I wish the epilogue was excised entirely. From the way the book's final chapter (and from what the movie did), it seemed like a beautiful ending without it. But who knows, maybe the epilogue will be beautifully done.

I like the epilogue. It gives just the right amount of closure, IMO. We don't have twenty pages of "where they are now," just a brief window into the world after the epic battle.

I like the idea, I just wish it didn't play out like bad fanfiction. It's obvious she wrote it years ago, before most of the novels. It doesn't match the style of the rest of Deathly Hallows. It's like hearing the 'The Clash of Lightsabers' in ROTS. it sticks out next to everything else.

The Rowling fanboys will love this post.

Pretty cool pictures but I don't think they will do the films justice - I bet each of these scenes will be epic on film.

On a side note, Neville looks a lot like Arthur Weasley in the shot of him with the sword. And it looks like Malfoy's crony Crabbe is replaced by Zabini after the cannibis incident.

I liked the creepy slowed-down Hedwig's Theme.

Good trailer, though I was sick of hearing Voldemort's screaming by the end of it. I'm fairly sure it was the same one over and over.

I didn't notice that the first time. Now I can't imagine how I didn't. You'd think they could mix a couple other screams in there.

I wish you hadn't said anything about that, now it's all I can pay attention to. Other than that and the music, definitely an awesome trailer. I have no doubt that this'll be a fitting conclusion to the series. Again, probably with the exception of the music, but if they have the sense to end it with a cue in the vein of "Leaving Hogwarts" or "Reunion of Friends", I won't complain.

Decent trailer. Thank God they got rid of that horrible MV version of Hedwig's Theme at the end, although they replaced with horribly done MV style trailer music. I would of liked to see something more like the first half of GoF's teaser (when it shows all the characters from the first three films), but I guess they need to sell tickets.

Well, it's not exactly a good trade off

Looks pretty good. Hope they find a good balance between action/fights and explaining some of the more important stuff that hasn't been explained in the movies yet.

And most importantly, hopefully John Williams will score it!

...

I tend to find colourful CGI shots in trailers cheap-looking.

Does anyone know if it's possible to see the "CREATING THE WORLD OF HARRY POTTER, PART 4: SOUND & MUSIC" documentary somewhere that isn't the Ultimate Edition DVD?

I don't actually want to buy it and it even seems I can't, but I would be interested in the content about the music.

Did John Williams graduate from Hawvawd?

From the second video linked from the documentary:

"The first Harry PAWTAH film..."

*Edit* No wait...the more I listen, the more I realize...he MUST be related to Donald Trump. When he's talking and he isn't on screen you hear just how similar their voices are!

All these Part 2 posters are terrible. And I thought the ones for Part 1 were lacking.

There needs to be something cool like the teaser poster for Parts 1 & 2. Not photoshopped characters and TDK-style visuals.

It would probably be fan-wanky, but I'd like to see them re-do the Struzan poster with the same poses, only with burning Hogwarts, no Hedwig, a Voldemort face etc.

the best poster was the one with Hogwarts smashed and on fire.

the Neville poster with him holding the sword of Gryffindore is terrific, perhaps because he's never been the main focus of any of the posters.

That's exactly what I was referring to. I was shocked WB turned out something so well for the final HP films, minus Struzan.

I'm still hoping for a Mary GrandPre-style one sheet for Part 2. Something like the book cover would be amazing.

MTV released an exclusive clip of Part 2, complete with musical score:

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=78421

As much as I liked Desplat's score for Part 1, this scene would've been perfect if the music was a little less prominent (or mixed down).

That's not the score, it's trailer music. That clip was shown at the MTV Awards and it lead directly into a clip show. They're just isolating that scene because it was the only bit that was exclusive for MTV and hadn't been previously released in other trailers.

Plus, it's pretty clear that it's been VERY heavily edited down from what it will be in the finished version. Or at least, I hope so...

Wow. Call me crazy, but I'm surprised they used such a spoiler heavy clip. For anyone who hasn't read the books and have been following the films, that little suspense of "does he die / does he live" that I had when reading the books.... gets kinda, well, ruined.

Lol I was thinking the same thing. Luckily I have read the books or I would be a bit annoyed by seeing that clip. I don't see why they would show that and not more of the actual battle instead.

I finally watched these - they helped me realize that Doyle's and Hooper's music has somehow grown on me over the years. I still prefer Williams, but some of the other composers' stuff is quite good and memorable. The possession theme, the waltz from GoF, the Flight of the Order, Umbridge's theme, and the ending of OotP are among my favorite non-Williams Potter themes and melodies.

We see two characters that are about to fight for a baton. The bold one is probably Williams. Must be some kind of clue. Can't be more obvious than that!

Williams! Williams!
